{"id":180904,"date":"2025-06-13T11:01:08","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T11:01:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/180904\/"},"modified":"2025-06-13T11:01:08","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T11:01:08","slug":"max-verstappen-clashes-with-ted-kravitz-in-testy-interview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/180904\/","title":{"rendered":"Max Verstappen clashes with Ted Kravitz in testy interview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Speaking with the media ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen had a notably testy interview with Sky F1\u2019s Ted Kravitz.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But he wasn\u2019t defending his antics at the Spanish Grand Prix, but rather Steven Knowles\u2019 call for him to give a position back to George Russell that ultimately led to Verstappen\u2019s 10-second race penalty and looming race ban.<\/p>\n<p>Max Verstappen: \u2018Well, you named him\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Much has been said about Verstappen\u2019s antics at the Barcelona circuit but the gist is, in the midst of a moment that he concedes was \u201cnot right\u201d, he accelerated and crashed into George Russell as everyone including the Red Bull pit wall believed he was yielding to the Mercedes driver to avoid a penalty for gaining an advantage off the track.<\/p>\n<p>Racing against Russell for position after a late-race Safety Car, Verstappen and the Mercedes driver bounced off one another with the reigning World Champion going down the escape road at Turn 1 and staying ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Red Bull, guided by Knowles, told him to give the position back to the Briton.<\/p>\n<p>But in a moment of, well only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/driver\/max-verstappen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Verstappen<\/a> can truly put the words to that, he seemed to oblige into Turn 5 before accelerating as Russell went around the outside, and crashed into him.<\/p>\n<p>Verstappen was given a 10-second penalty and three penalty points for his antics but rubbing salt into the wounds, the stewards ruled they had no issue with Verstappen and Russell\u2019s initial clashing, meaning he never had to give the position back to the Briton.<\/p>\n<p>The drivers closing in on race bans in F1 2025<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49<a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/features\/f1-penalty-points-drivers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">F1 penalty points: Verstappen dangerously close to race ban after Russell clash<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/f1s-penalty-system-explained-how-does-a-driver-pick-up-a-penalty-from-the-fia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">F1\u2019s penalty system explained: How does a driver pick up a penalty from the FIA?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But while Verstappen did concede in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/max-verstappen-george-russell-fia-penalty-statement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the cold light of Monday morning<\/a> that his second clash with Russell was \u201cnot right\u201d, he will not have anyone point the finger at senior strategist Knowles as the catalyst.<\/p>\n<p>He called Sky F1\u2019s pit lane reporter Kravitz into line over even the mere hint of that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kravitz: <\/strong>\u201cSo just a question about going forward the negotiation with the stewards or race director on whether places should be given back, or, or, or what.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince Jonathan Wheatley went, obviously you have Steven Knowles who is doing it. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI assume it was him who told \u2018GP\u2019 to tell you to give the place back to George, which wasn\u2019t the right call. The stewards later confirmed that. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow are you working that out with him? <\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, he\u2019s not been in the job too long since Jonathan\u2019s gone to Sauber. How are you working that out that same situation doesn\u2019t happen again?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Verstappen: <\/strong>\u201cI think it\u2019s not really nice to try single out a person to be honest, because that\u2019s never the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we just look at it as a team. What we always can do better, and that\u2019s also how we look at it in Barcelona. But it\u2019s not fair to now single out one single person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kravitz: <\/strong>\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m singling him out, I just named him\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Verstappen: \u201cWell, you named him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kravitz:<\/strong> \u201cI just named who he was. Jonathan Wheatley is obviously a well-known guy, I wasn\u2019t saying it was Stephen Knowles his fault.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Verstappen:<\/strong> \u201cBut you mentioned him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kravitz: <\/strong>\u201cJonathan Wheatley was a well-known guy, he was your rules guy. Now he [Knowles] is the new guy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Verstappen: <\/strong>\u201cSo we\u2019re talking about him, your singling him out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kravitz:<\/strong> \u201cOK, but he\u2019s on the pit wall. He\u2019s a fairly\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Verstappen:<\/strong> \u201cI do not need to discuss that anyway here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we ever look at things that we can do better, we do that like every other team. But I\u2019m not going stand here in front of the camera and say who was at fault exactly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kravitz:<\/strong> \u201cI wasn\u2019t asking\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Verstappen:<\/strong> \u201cWe all live and learn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kravitz: \u201cI wasn\u2019t asking you to do that, just to be clear. I was asking how you\u2026 live and learn.
