Petrol station owners have won the right to sell alcohol from their village forecourt\u2019s convenience store despite objections from neighbours.<\/p>\n
But South Gloucestershire<\/a> councillors limited the sales at Cotswold Service Station in Old Sodbury to 6am-10pm daily instead of the requested 11pm closing time.<\/p>\n Six residents objected to the application by Niza Southwater Ltd on the grounds it could \u2018attract undesirables\u2019 and concerns about alcohol-related antisocial behaviour, noise and traffic.<\/p>\n But one villager wrote in support, saying it was the only local shop, and there was no opposition from the authorities such as the police and environmental health.<\/p>\n Niza Southwater\u2019s agent Keith Walmsley told the licensing sub-committee on Wednesday, June 11: \u201cOur company is a responsible national operator with a strong track record of managing licensed premises similar to the Co-op, Budgens and Nisa, both in city centre and rural locations across the UK, and some of our businesses have 24-hour licences.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are proud to say we operate without any licence reviews or complaints.<\/p>\n \u201cWe fully respect and understand the views of residents who have objected.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have listened carefully and we do not dismiss their concerns.<\/p>\n \u201cOur aim has never been to cause disruption or worry, only to provide a well-managed, convenient local service in keeping with the character of the area.<\/p>\n \u201cAbove all, we want to be a good neighbour.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are committed to working with residents and the council to resolve any concerns swiftly and constructively.\u201d<\/p>\n He said traffic was not expected to increase much because the off-sales alcohol would be sold alongside regular groceries.<\/p>\n Mr Walmsley said many similar petrol stations operated 24\/7 but that they had decided not to apply for this here.<\/p>\n Conditions include a ban on the sale of single cans of beer, lager or cider and no sales of high-strength alcohol above 6.5 per cent unless it is a premium or craft product.<\/p>\n The site in Badminton Road currently closes at 9pm.<\/p>\n Join Bristol Live\u2019s WhatsApp community for top stories and breaking news sent directly to your phone<\/strong><\/p>\n Bristol Live<\/a> is now on WhatsApp and we want you to join our community.<\/p>\n Through the app, we\u2019ll send the latest breaking news, top stories, exclusives and much more straight to your phone.<\/p>\n To join our community you need to already have WhatsApp. All you need to do is click this link and select \u2018Join Community\u2019.<\/a><\/p>\n No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Bristol Live<\/a> team.<\/p>\n We also treat community members to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners.
