{"id":181238,"date":"2025-06-13T13:58:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T13:58:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/181238\/"},"modified":"2025-06-13T13:58:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T13:58:09","slug":"boxing-legend-sent-into-retirement-by-pacquiao-delivers-verdict-on-barrios-fight-its-the-truth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/181238\/","title":{"rendered":"Boxing Legend Sent Into Retirement By Pacquiao Delivers Verdict On Barrios Fight: &#8220;It&#8217;s The Truth&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/manny-pacquiao\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manny Pacquiao<\/a> is just one month away from making a sensational return to the ring.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/boxing\/story\/_\/id\/45057278\/sources-pacquiao-ending-retirement-face-barrios-wbc-belt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The 46-year-old from the Philippines will lock horns with reigning WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios on Saturday July 19<\/a> at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Pac-Man\u2019 announced his retirement from the sport back in 2021, just a few months after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/news\/pacquiao-opponent-on-chances-against-barrios\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he was defeated by former WBA welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas,<\/a> drawing the curtain on his professional career having won world titles in eight divisions.<\/p>\n<p>Rumours of a comeback began to circulate at the end of 2024 and after months of speculation, it was confirmed in May that the Filipino icon would resume his career and bid to become a world champion once again.<\/p>\n<p>One man who has experience in facing Pacquiao is six-division world champion turned promoter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/oscar-de-la-hoya\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oscar De La Hoya<\/a>, who was beaten by \u2018Pac-Man\u2019 in the final bout of his outstanding career back in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/shorts\/9iN9tra-xEg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fight Hype,<\/a> De La Hoya was asked to share his thoughts on his former rival\u2019s shock comeback to the sport at 46-years-old, and claims the Filipino great can \u2018absolutely\u2019 be victorious over Barrios next month.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI wish him all the best. Can he do it? Absolutely. Manny Pacquiao\u2019s a legend, I think he can do it absolutely I mean it\u2019s not gonna be easy but I think he can do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In a separate interview with SecondsOut the \u2018Golden Boy\u2019 praised Pacquiao\u2019s power but advised him to \u2018be careful\u2019 against the much younger man.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI wish him all the best. Obviously the truth is the truth, he\u2019s obviously not the same Pacquiao that fought me, that fought the greats. I wish him the best, be careful up there, he\u2019s not young like he used to be but I\u2019m sure he still has that power so anything can happen but yeah, just be careful.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Should Pacquiao prevail against \u2018El Azteca\u2019, he will become the oldest world welterweight champion of all time, breaking the record that he actually set himself back in 2019 when he defeated Keith Thurman to capture the WBA welterweight crown at 40-years-old.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Manny Pacquiao is just one month away from making a sensational return to the ring.
