Similar to Lilo &amp; Stitch, there\u2019s a lot of millennial love for How to Train Your Dragon. The Dean DeBlois directed family epic is booked at 4,356 theaters this weekend including all premium upcharge formats.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Screenshot-2025-04-14-at-4.16.58\u202fPM-e1744672783131.jpg\" alt=\"L-R: Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal in 'Materialists' directed by Celine Song\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"155\" width=\"300\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tA24<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tA24\u2019s <strong>Materialists<\/strong> from Celine Song is off to a great start with<strong> $1.5M<\/strong> in Thursday previews at 2,844 locations. That figure isn\u2019t that far from Luca Guadagnino\u2019s Challengers ($1.9M previews, $15M opening). The Dakota Johnson-Pedro Pascal-Chris Evans movie stands at 77% with Rotten Tomatoes audiences (audiences may be divided in Johnson\u2019s choice of dudes in the film) with critics making heart eyes with 87% certified fresh. Outlook for Materialists was $7M-$8M. There\u2019s hope especially after last night that it\u2019s bound to be better. Previews for Materialists are also ahead of Universal\u2019s George Clooney-Julia Roberts romcom Ticket to Paradise which did $1.1M on its way to a $16.5M start. Materialists cost around $20M before P&amp;A. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tRest of the week went down as follows:<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t1.) <strong>Lilo &amp; Stitch<\/strong> (Dis) 4,185 theaters, Thu $2.8M (-14% from Wed), Wk <strong>$47.5M<\/strong> (-44%), Total <strong>$350.8M<\/strong>\/Wk 3<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t2.) <strong>Ballerina<\/strong> (LG) 3,409 theaters, Thu $1.3M (-15%), Wk <strong>$32.4M<\/strong>\/Wk 1 <br \/>For its Monday through Thursday stretch, Ballerina made $7.9M, which is $1M more than Mission: Impossible 8 over the same frame this past week ($6.9M). As we always say, these are industry estimates, so they could fluctuate by the time Universal reports in the morning. The studio didn\u2019t return request for comment on what we were spotting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWhile early week projections were $65M-$75M, exhibition has been pushing this one in hopes they can wrangle a $100M opening. We could use more of those this summer post Memorial Day weekend.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe audience score on Rotten Tomatoes for this Dean DeBlois directed movie (he did the original animated trilogy) is an epic 99% with critics at 77% certified fresh (that\u2019s a little higher than Lilo &amp; Stitch\u2018s 72% fresh; that pic\u2019s audience score settling at 93%). Previews began today at 2PM. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHow to Train Your Dragon\u2018s preview money isn\u2019t far from Frozen 2\u2018s ($8.5M, $130.2M opening), but it\u2019s below Lilo &amp; Stitch\u2018s $14.5M ($146M opening).
