he died months later from an aggressive brain tumour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A family has told of their grief after a GP dismissed a father-of-two&#8217;s incurable brain tumour and said he had <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/depression\/index.html\" id=\"mol-79de67b0-4869-11f0-a008-fd43e44c0796\" rel=\"noopener\">depression<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Life-long Sheffield Wednesday football fan Jamie Acaster, from Eckington in Derbyshire, suddenly found it to difficult to <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/yourmoney\/product-recalls\/index.html\" id=\"mol-79e126d0-4869-11f0-a008-fd43e44c0796\" rel=\"noopener\">recall<\/a> player&#8217;s names and follow conversations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">But after arranging several GP appointments, the 48-year-old was shocked to hear a doctor say his symptoms were due to depression.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It was only after his condition worsened and he failed to remember every day words and phrases that his sister Donna Sayle, a nurse, urged him in April 2023 to visit A&amp;E.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Referred for an MRI scan at\u00a0Chesterfield Royal Hospital, tests then\u00a0showed he had a high-grade glioblastoma \u2014 one of the deadliest types of brain tumours.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Treatment for the &#8216;aggressive&#8217; and that&#8217;s when I knew something wasn&#8217;t right\u2014it was so unlike him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;When he started calling me to say things didn&#8217;t make sense or he couldn&#8217;t remember people&#8217;s names, I knew something wasn&#8217;t right.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;He visited his GP several times, but they said he was depressed\u2014Jamie knew he wasn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;I was at work when he finally phoned and said they&#8217;d found a shadow on a scan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;He said &#8220;they think it\u2019s a brain tumour&#8221;. He was still cracking jokes in his final days. He absolutely loved socialising and was always getting people round the house.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">She added: &#8216;One of his proudest roles was running his son&#8217;s football team.
