Of that total, <strong>29.2 million passengers<\/strong> were processed at facilities located on the <strong>Iberian Peninsula<\/strong>, reflecting a <strong>3.3% year-over-year growth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>According to data released by the airport operator, global <strong>air traffic reached 297,321 aircraft movements<\/strong>, with <strong>247,288<\/strong> occurring in <strong>Spain<\/strong>\u2014a <strong>3.9% rise<\/strong> compared to May of the previous year. Meanwhile, <strong>cargo volume<\/strong> across Spanish airports totaled <strong>126,911 metric tons<\/strong>, marking a <strong>4.8% annual increase<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adolfo Su\u00e1rez Madrid-Barajas Airport<\/strong> led in passenger volume with <strong>5.7 million travelers (+1%)<\/strong>, followed by <strong>Barcelona-El Prat<\/strong> with <strong>5.17 million (+3.7%)<\/strong>, and <strong>Palma de Mallorca<\/strong>, which handled <strong>3.82 million passengers<\/strong>, though it posted a slight decline of <strong>0.5%<\/strong>. Airports showing the strongest growth included <strong>M\u00e1laga-Costa del Sol (+8.7%)<\/strong> and <strong>Valencia (+7.2%)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In May, <strong>Seville Airport<\/strong> recorded its <strong>highest passenger traffic in history<\/strong>, while <strong>23 airports in the network set new May records<\/strong>, including <strong>Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, M\u00e1laga, Alicante, Valencia, Ibiza<\/strong>, and <strong>Tenerife South<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of <strong>operations<\/strong>, <strong>Madrid-Barajas<\/strong> also led with <strong>36,641 flights (+0.8%)<\/strong>, followed by <strong>Barcelona-El Prat<\/strong> (<strong>33,131, +4.9%<\/strong>) and <strong>Palma de Mallorca<\/strong> (<strong>27,190, +0.3%<\/strong>). In total, <strong>18 airports<\/strong> posted their <strong>highest-ever operational volumes<\/strong> for the month of May.<\/p>\n<p>As for <strong>cargo<\/strong>, <strong>Madrid-Barajas<\/strong> processed <strong>69,335 metric tons<\/strong>, a <strong>9.5% increase<\/strong> and the <strong>highest volume ever recorded in May<\/strong> at the airport. It was followed by <strong>Barcelona-El Prat<\/strong> with <strong>17,457 tons (+10.5%)<\/strong>, also a monthly record for that facility.<\/p>\n<p>From <strong>January to May<\/strong>, <strong>Spanish airports<\/strong> under Aena&#8217;s management handled <strong>120.1 million passengers<\/strong>, a <strong>4.7% increase<\/strong> compared to the same period in <strong>2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Brazil<\/strong>, the <strong>17 airports operated by Aena<\/strong> served <strong>3.65 million passengers in May<\/strong>, up <strong>8.5% year-over-year<\/strong>, though <strong>aircraft movements fell by 4%<\/strong>. <strong>Congonhas Airport<\/strong> in <strong>S\u00e3o Paulo<\/strong> led the way with <strong>1.97 million passengers (+9.2%)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cargo transport in Brazil<\/strong> also saw significant growth, reaching <strong>10,692 metric tons<\/strong>, up <strong>17.1%<\/strong> compared to May 2024. <strong>Congonhas handled 42%<\/strong> of the national total.<\/p>\n<p>At <strong>London Luton Airport<\/strong>, also operated by Aena, <strong>1.6 million passengers<\/strong> were recorded in May (<strong>+3.1%<\/strong>), while <strong>cargo traffic declined by 9.5%<\/strong> year-over-year.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, <strong>Aena managed 145.1 million passengers globally<\/strong> from <strong>January to May 2025<\/strong>, a <strong>4.9% increase<\/strong> compared to the same five-month period in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Author_description__6utoi\">Contando la aviaci\u00f3n desde marzo del a\u00f1o 2000.
