The airports managed by Aena<\/strong> in Spain, Brazil, and the United Kingdom<\/strong> handled a combined 34.5 million passengers in May<\/strong>, representing a 3.8% increase<\/strong> compared to the same month in 2024<\/strong>. Of that total, 29.2 million passengers<\/strong> were processed at facilities located on the Iberian Peninsula<\/strong>, reflecting a 3.3% year-over-year growth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to data released by the airport operator, global air traffic reached 297,321 aircraft movements<\/strong>, with 247,288<\/strong> occurring in Spain<\/strong>\u2014a 3.9% rise<\/strong> compared to May of the previous year. Meanwhile, cargo volume<\/strong> across Spanish airports totaled 126,911 metric tons<\/strong>, marking a 4.8% annual increase<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Adolfo Su\u00e1rez Madrid-Barajas Airport<\/strong> led in passenger volume with 5.7 million travelers (+1%)<\/strong>, followed by Barcelona-El Prat<\/strong> with 5.17 million (+3.7%)<\/strong>, and Palma de Mallorca<\/strong>, which handled 3.82 million passengers<\/strong>, though it posted a slight decline of 0.5%<\/strong>. Airports showing the strongest growth included M\u00e1laga-Costa del Sol (+8.7%)<\/strong> and Valencia (+7.2%)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In May, Seville Airport<\/strong> recorded its highest passenger traffic in history<\/strong>, while 23 airports in the network set new May records<\/strong>, including Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, M\u00e1laga, Alicante, Valencia, Ibiza<\/strong>, and Tenerife South<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In terms of operations<\/strong>, Madrid-Barajas<\/strong> also led with 36,641 flights (+0.8%)<\/strong>, followed by Barcelona-El Prat<\/strong> (33,131, +4.9%<\/strong>) and Palma de Mallorca<\/strong> (27,190, +0.3%<\/strong>). In total, 18 airports<\/strong> posted their highest-ever operational volumes<\/strong> for the month of May.<\/p>\n

As for cargo<\/strong>, Madrid-Barajas<\/strong> processed 69,335 metric tons<\/strong>, a 9.5% increase<\/strong> and the highest volume ever recorded in May<\/strong> at the airport. It was followed by Barcelona-El Prat<\/strong> with 17,457 tons (+10.5%)<\/strong>, also a monthly record for that facility.<\/p>\n

From January to May<\/strong>, Spanish airports<\/strong> under Aena’s management handled 120.1 million passengers<\/strong>, a 4.7% increase<\/strong> compared to the same period in 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Brazil<\/strong>, the 17 airports operated by Aena<\/strong> served 3.65 million passengers in May<\/strong>, up 8.5% year-over-year<\/strong>, though aircraft movements fell by 4%<\/strong>. Congonhas Airport<\/strong> in S\u00e3o Paulo<\/strong> led the way with 1.97 million passengers (+9.2%)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Cargo transport in Brazil<\/strong> also saw significant growth, reaching 10,692 metric tons<\/strong>, up 17.1%<\/strong> compared to May 2024. Congonhas handled 42%<\/strong> of the national total.<\/p>\n

At London Luton Airport<\/strong>, also operated by Aena, 1.6 million passengers<\/strong> were recorded in May (+3.1%<\/strong>), while cargo traffic declined by 9.5%<\/strong> year-over-year.<\/p>\n

Overall, Aena managed 145.1 million passengers globally<\/strong> from January to May 2025<\/strong>, a 4.9% increase<\/strong> compared to the same five-month period in 2024.<\/p>\n
