Police officers have been given extra powers after gunshots were fired on a Toxteth street. Merseyside Police officers were called to Kingsley Road in Toxteth<\/a> at around 8.20pm yesterday, Thursday, June 12 following reports of gunshots.<\/p>\n One local resident told the ECHO<\/a> he had heard “nine gunshots going off” resulting in armed officers arriving on the scene. One woman, who lives on Kingsley Road, told the ECHO<\/a> this morning, June 13, that she heard the gunshots, with one of the bullets “hitting her neighbour’s car”.<\/p>\n No one has been arrested at this stage of the investigation and no injuries have been reported to police. The force has confirmed it has introduced a section 60 order<\/a> in the area, which will run from 6pm today, Friday, June 13 to 8am tomorrow, Saturday, June 14.<\/p>\n Extra officers have been deployed to the area and will have enhanced stop and search powers to stop people in the area. The additional powers are designed to minimise the threat of serious violence.<\/p>\n Neighbourhood inspector Laura Chandler said: “We\u2019re introducing this section 60 Order as an extra response and provide us with the powers needed to stop and search people in the area following gunshots being fired in Kingsley Road last night. Thankfully we have received no reports of anyone injured from the incident.<\/p>\n READ MORE: What is a Section 60 and why are they brought in?<\/a><\/p>\n “This order is one of a number of measures we are taking to disrupt those who would assault or use weapons on anyone in the area. Such action isn\u2019t about bothering anyone going about their daily business or preventing people from meeting with friends.<\/p>\n “It\u2019s simply about taking action to reduce violence and make sure that everyone can feel safe where they live. Patrols have also been stepped up to reassure our residents so if you have any information on any offences in the area please speak with our officers.”<\/p>\n A police helicopter was seen in the area following last night’s shooting. A large cordon was erected around the area and forensic officers carried out investigations. Uniformed officers could also be seen going in and out of a property on the road.<\/p>\n The cordon remained around large parts of Kingsley Road this morning. As well as covering a section of Kingsley Road, a one-way street which connects Princes Park with Upper Parliament Street, police also erected a cordon around all of Thames Street<\/a>.<\/p>\n Cars were directed around from the area and pedestrians were asked to use Granby Street, with the police cordon preventing people accessing both Beaconsfield Street and Cairns Street from Kingsley Road<\/a>.<\/p>\n Residents could leave the cordon if they notified police officers. There were around 10 police and community support officers<\/a> in the area when the ECHO visited this morning. Last night armed officers were in attendance.<\/p>\n Merseyside Police<\/a> said officers found damage to a vehicle and “further evidence of a firearm being discharged”<\/a>. Nobody has been reported as being injured at this stage.<\/p>\n Officers have not confirmed a possible motive for the firearms discharge. House-to-house, CCTV and forensic work continued overnight at the scene and the force will maintain a high-visibility presence in the area.<\/p>\n Detective chief inspector Ben Dyer said: “These are the early hours of our investigation so we initially want to speak to anyone who saw, heard or may have captured this incident as a matter of urgency. If you live locally or were passing by, please check any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage and speak to us, either directly or anonymously via Crimestoppers.”<\/p>\n Inspector Chandler added: “We are determined to rid the streets of firearms and find all those prepared to store, carry and use them.
