This year\u2019s event, which celebrates the official birthday of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elledecor.com\/celebrity-style\/a63239695\/king-charles-royal-warrant-sanderson-wallpaper\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.elledecor.com\/celebrity-style\/a63239695\/king-charles-royal-warrant-sanderson-wallpaper\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"British sovereign\" data-node-id=\"0.8\" class=\"body-link css-1c3jgal emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">British sovereign<\/a>, will take place on Saturday, June 14. Traditionally, the reigning monarch leads the procession from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade on horseback. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"1\" class=\"css-i9p093 emevuu60\">Although the 76-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elledecor.com\/celebrity-style\/celebrity-homes\/a43672347\/charles-secret-coronation-room\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.elledecor.com\/celebrity-style\/celebrity-homes\/a43672347\/charles-secret-coronation-room\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"monarch\" data-node-id=\"1.1\" class=\"body-link css-1c3jgal emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">monarch<\/a> is an accomplished equestrian and rode for years in the parade (for his mother\u2019s celebrations and then his own), his ongoing cancer treatment prompted a return to the carriage alongside Queen Camilla last year\u2014an adjustment to protocol that will continue this year. It\u2019s a decision made with the King\u2019s comfort and safety in mind as he continues weekly treatments following a cancer diagnosis in early 2024. The couple will instead be riding in the Scottish State Coach, which has a long and storied history within the British royal household. <\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"britain royals trooping\" title=\"BRITAIN-ROYALS-TROOPING\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/britains-king-charles-iii-sits-inside-the-scottish-state-news-photo-1749761055.pjpeg\" class=\"css-0 e1g79fud0\"\/>Benjamin Cremel\/\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>King Charles III inside the Scottish State Coach for last year&#8217;s Trooping the Colour.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"3\" class=\"css-i9p093 emevuu60\">Originally commissioned in 1830 by Prince Adolphus, the Duke of Cambridge\u2014brother to King William IV and grandfather to the future Queen Mary\u2014the coach was first designed as an enclosed glass &#8216;town&#8217; coach, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.royal.uk\/Royal-Wedding-Horses\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.royal.uk\/Royal-Wedding-Horses\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"the Royal Household\" data-node-id=\"3.1\" class=\"body-link css-1c3jgal emevuu60\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Royal Household<\/a>. It remained in the Duke\u2019s family for several years before being sold to William Keppel, 7th Earl of Albemarle, who converted it into a semi-state landau, a roofless carriage with front and rear seats facing each other. In 1920, the coach was given to the Royal Family for Queen Mary.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"4\" class=\"css-i9p093 emevuu60\">Nearly five decades later, in 1968\u201369, the Scottish State Coach underwent another extensive restoration to return it to its original enclosed form. More recently, the coach appeared in 2016 during the Queen\u2019s 90th birthday celebrations at the Windsor Horse Show. Coachman Natalie Ozanne called it \u201ca big favourite,\u201d the royal website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.royal.uk\/Royal-Wedding-Horses#:~:text=Large%20glass%20windows%20and%2C%20uniquely,&#039;\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.royal.uk\/Royal-Wedding-Horses#:~:text=Large%20glass%20windows%20and%2C%20uniquely,&#039;\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"reported\" data-node-id=\"8.1\" class=\"body-link css-1c3jgal emevuu60\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>, noting that \u201cit has a glass ceiling, so crowds higher up, people positioned higher up\u2014which there will be a lot of in Windsor\u2014can see in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"9\" class=\"css-i9p093 emevuu60\">During its Windsor appearance, the carriage was pulled by four Windsor Grey horses and two additional horses served as outriders.
