Kemi Badenoch has embarrassed herself again, this time claiming that the Tories delivered the \u00a3350 million extra per week for the NHS, as laid out on Vote Leave\u2019s Brexit red bus and repeatedly promised by Boris Johnson.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n On Sky News, the Tory leader called NHS funding a \u201cconundrum\u201d. She said: I remember coming into Parliament as a brand new MP, and we were talking about how we\u2019re giving the biggest amount we\u2019ve ever given to the NHS, record funding.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve been doing this again and again. I mean, who remembers the side of a red bus that said \u2018we\u2019re going to give the NHS \u00a3350 million more a week\u2019?<\/p>\n \u201cMany people don\u2019t know that we did that. We did do that, and yet, still we\u2019re not seeing the returns.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s true that Theresa May pledged additional funding for the NHS in 2018, when she committed an additional \u00a320 billion a year for the health service by 2023.<\/p>\n However, this had nothing to do with achieving the bogus Vote Leave campaign pledge and wasn\u2019t funded by money \u2018saved\u2019 from leaving the EU.\u00a0<\/p>\n While the \u00a3350 million figure was bandied around during the Brexit referendum, the UK\u2019s contribution to the EU budget was more like \u00a3234 million a week.<\/p>\n Not only that, but it cost the UK around \u00a330.2 billion to leave the bloc, enough to cover Vote Leave\u2019s questionable \u00a3350 million-a-week pledge for more than a year and a half.<\/p>\n The Tories like to keep rewriting Brexit history but the Brexit bus broke down a long time ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n Olivia Barber is a reporter at Left Foot Forward<\/strong><\/p>\n
