{"id":182489,"date":"2025-06-14T01:04:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-14T01:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/182489\/"},"modified":"2025-06-14T01:04:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-14T01:04:09","slug":"tinubu-saved-nigerias-economy-soludo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/182489\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu Saved Nigeria&#8217;s Economy: Soludo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ai-optimize-14 ai-optimize-introduction\">\u200eAnambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has said President Bola Tinubu\u2019s administration rescued Nigeria\u2019s economy from collapse and restored the country\u2019s public finances to a path of solvency.<br \/>\u200e<br \/>\u200eSpeaking on Thursday at The Platform Nigeria event in Lagos, the former Central Bank Governor said Tinubu inherited an economy on the brink, and praised his \u201caudacious structural reforms\u201d for averting a crisis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-15\">The full remarks were shared by the State House in a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.<br \/>\u200e<br \/>\u200eSoludo said, \u201cIn 2023, I had described the state of the economy when this government assumed office as akin to a standing dead horse, and public finance was about to tip from solvency, with potentially catastrophic consequences, including possible mass retrenchment of workers and\/or arrears of salaries and pensions. Public finance is back on a solvency path, and macro fundamentals are recovering positively.\u201d<br \/>\u200e<br \/>\u200eHe said Tinubu\u2019s reforms had earned international recognition, citing positive reports from the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and global credit rating agencies like Fitch and Moody\u2019s.<br \/>\u200e<br \/>\u200eAlthough he acknowledged the mixed reactions to such endorsements, Soludo said the trajectory of reforms showed that the praise was deserved.<br \/>\u200e<br \/>\u200eThe governor urged Nigerians to approach economic criticism with evidence and rigour, rather than opinions alone.<br \/>\u200e<br \/>\u201cMany analysts have interesting \u2018opinions\u2019, but I urge them to go deeper: conduct rigorous counterfactual analysis and provide credible alternatives!<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-16\">\u201cAs a friend said recently, the task is always easy, especially if you are not the one doing it,\u201d he said.<br \/>\u200e<br \/>\u200eBeyond economic policies, Soludo emphasised the need for ethical reorientation and ideological realignment across Nigeria\u2019s political and social systems.<br \/>\u200e<br \/>He said, \u201cWe must deliberately create a critical mass of \u2018new Nigerians\u2019\u2014who believe in her and are ready, if necessary, to die for her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-17\">\u201cThe struggle for liberation from colonialism would not have been possible without the nationalists of the time, and the current struggle to liberate her from underdevelopment cannot be sustainable with \u2018neo-nationalists\u2019 of today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-18\">\u201cNo nation has prospered sustainably without a critical mass of patriotic, vigilant and actively participatory citizenry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-19\">\u200eHe cited the Federal Government\u2019s student loan programme and his administration\u2019s youth and education-focused initiatives as steps toward creating a more patriotic and engaged citizenry.<br \/>\u200e<br \/>\u200eCalling for a national conversation, Soludo said the country must intentionally promote values that encourage productivity, integrity, and civic responsibility.<br \/>\u200e<br \/>\u201cWe must break this vicious \u2018culture\u2019 and intentionally promote ethical-value rebirth.
