Prince Philip<\/a> kept his wit until the last moments of his life, according to his son, King Charles<\/a>. The late Duke of Edinburgh died on April 9, 2021, aged 99, surrounded by his nearest and dearest at Windsor Castle, just months before what would have been his milestone 100th birthday on June 10.<\/p>\n

In a BBC<\/a> documentary titled Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers, which aired in September of the same year as his death, members of the Royal Family gave an unprecedented look into the person behind Philip\u2019s public persona. There, King Charles spoke fondly of his father and recalled the last conversation he had with him just one day before he died.<\/p>\n

He said that he called his father in Windsor on April 8 to talk about his upcoming birthday in June.<\/p>\n

The monarch – who was then the Prince of Wales – said he told his father: “We\u2019re talking about your birthday.”<\/p>\n

But he had to repeat himself louder as his father was hard of hearing, saying: “We\u2019re talking about your birthday! And whether there\u2019s going to be a reception!”<\/p>\n

The late Duke quickly replied: “Well, I\u2019ve got to be alive for it, haven\u2019t I?”<\/p>\n

Charles then made a five-word remark: “I knew you\u2019d say that!”<\/p>\n

Prince Philip was known to have made many controversial jokes during his time in the Firm.<\/p>\n

In 1959, when the late Queen was pregnant with Prince Andrew<\/a>, he reportedly said: “People want their first child very much.<\/p>\n

“They want the second almost as much.
