{"id":182845,"date":"2025-06-14T04:18:55","date_gmt":"2025-06-14T04:18:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/182845\/"},"modified":"2025-06-14T04:18:55","modified_gmt":"2025-06-14T04:18:55","slug":"middlesbroughs-rivals-sheffield-wednesday-slammed-by-pfa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/182845\/","title":{"rendered":"Middlesbrough&#8217;s rivals Sheffield Wednesday slammed by PFA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article-first-paragraph\">\n    THE PFA has called Sheffield Wednesday\u2019s repeated failure to pay players on time \u201cunacceptable\u201d and accused the club of failing to communicate properly with its employees.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    Members of Wednesday\u2019s squad are yet to be paid in full for May, leading to a transfer embargo placed on the club by the EFL.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    The delay, the second of its kind in recent months after wages also went unpaid for March, has seen both the club and owner Dejphon Chansiri charged by the league.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    The previous hold-up was attributed to \u201ccash-flow issues\u201d connected to other businesses owned by Chansiri.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    Wednesday are yet to give a reason for their failure to pay their players for May and there has been no indication how soon the matter will be resolved.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    <strong>RECOMMENDED READING:<\/strong>\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    It comes amid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenorthernecho.co.uk\/sport\/football\/middlesbrough\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Middlesbrough<\/a> interest in Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenorthernecho.co.uk\/sport\/25227195.middlesbroughs-three-man-shortlist-vacant-head-coach-position\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The highly-rated German boss is one of three frontrunners for the Boro job<\/a>, alongside Rob Edwards and Steve Cooper.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    Rohl has worked wonders at Hillsborough, guiding the Owls to unlikely Championship safety in his first season in charge before leading his side to a 12th-place finish last season, despite the off-field issues rumbling away in the background.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    In a statement, the PFA said: \u201cAs the professional players\u2019 union, we have now been speaking to members at Sheffield Wednesday over many months regarding repeated delays in the payment of salaries.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    \u201cUltimately, players and staff are like any other group of employees \u2013 they should be able to expect their wages to be paid on time and for the terms of their contracts to be met by their employers.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    \u201cWhen that does not happen, it has a significant impact on the professional and personal lives of players, staff and their families. The uncertainty it causes is made worse when there appears to be a lack of clear communication regarding the reason these issues are occurring, and when payments can be expected.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    \u201cContinued and ongoing delays to player and staff wages are unacceptable and need to be addressed without further delay.
