{"id":182945,"date":"2025-06-14T05:10:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-14T05:10:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/182945\/"},"modified":"2025-06-14T05:10:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-14T05:10:12","slug":"high-profile-f1-steward-axed-for-canadian-grand-prix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/182945\/","title":{"rendered":"High profile F1 steward axed for Canadian Grand Prix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Derek Warwick has been suspended from his duties as a steward for this weekend\u2019s Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix after a number of controversial media interviews.<\/p>\n<p>The 70-year-old, who has four grand prix podiums, was due to serve as one of the stewards in Montreal but will now sit out the weekend after the FIA decided to suspend Warwick.<\/p>\n<p>In previous days, quotes attributed to Warwick circulated by a gambling firm have been picked up by a number of websites criticising several current drivers including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/lando-norris\/840487\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lando Norris<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/lance-stroll\/840484\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lance Stroll<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/yuki-tsunoda\/841444\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yuki Tsunoda<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing recent unauthorised media comments, the FIA has taken the decision to suspend Derek Warwick from his duties as driver steward for this weekend\u2019s Canadian Grand Prix,\u201d an FIA statement read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe will be replaced by Enrique Bernoldi, who will be officiating from the Remote Operations Centre in Geneva for the remainder of the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter discussion, Derek acknowledges that his comments were ill-advised in his role as an FIA steward and has apologised.
