Liam Lawson has delivered Racing Bulls a clear message that is must “keep pushing the limits”, following a very positive opening day in Montreal.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The New Zealander enjoyed an excellent first day of the Canadian Grand Prix and ended it 10th on the timesheets, directly behind Max Verstappen and directly ahead of Isack Hadjar.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was one of Lawson’s strongest opening days to a grand prix this season, and one of the rare occasions where he has been faster than Hadjar.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a real driver favourite and a venue Lawson has always wanted to visit, adding to the enjoyment of first and second practice.\u00a0<\/p>\n
However, he has recognised that himself and the Faenza-based outfit must keep unlocking pace, due to the tightness of the midfield.<\/p>\n
“I think it’s positive, it’s close, as usual at the moment,” said Lawson, assessing his opening day performance. “I think, personally, it’s been a fun day. It’s a cool track.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“It’s been a place I’ve wanted to come to for a long time. So, yeah, I enjoyed it. Just very, very close. We need to keep pushing the limits and finding every bit of speed we can.”<\/p>\n
Based on his strong Friday, Lawson is keen to push on Saturday to make an appearance in Q3, something he believes is possible.<\/p>\n
For it to be possible in Montreal, though, he has noted the importance of maintaining a strong car balance.\u00a0<\/p>\n
