{"id":183921,"date":"2025-06-14T14:05:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-14T14:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/183921\/"},"modified":"2025-06-14T14:05:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-14T14:05:12","slug":"former-salisbury-nhs-trust-chair-in-kings-birthday-honours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/183921\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Salisbury NHS trust chair in King\u2019s birthday honours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Luke\u00a0March, who lives in Great Durnford and led the city&#8217;s NHS trust from 2005 to 2014, has been awarded an OBE for services to healthcare and charitable causes.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He also\u00a0chaired the NHS Integrated Care Partnership for Berkshire West and chaired the\u00a0Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases NHS Foundation Trust.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He later served as the\u00a0lead governor for the South Western Ambulance Service until his term ended in February 2025.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Outside of healthcare, he\u00a0was chairman of the National Churches Trust until 2022 and is now the organisation&#8217;s vice-president.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He was previously a lay canon on the Chapter of Salisbury Cathedral and now chairs the Friends of the Cathedral.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salisburyjournal.co.uk\/news\/10906186.hospital-chairman-retires\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview with the\u00a0Journal\u00a0in 2013<\/a>, Mr March said:\u00a0\u201cOver the nine years that I\u2019ve been there [the Salisbury trust], things have been improving dramatically.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWhen I first came to Salisbury, the waiting time was approaching nine months, but now 90 per cent of patients are seen within two months.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cSalisbury has such wonderful skills: hips, knees and maternity are some of the things we do brilliantly, and special services like burns, plastic surgery and spinal injury. It makes it even more special, and attracts people to us.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Other local recipients include\u00a0Peter Briggs, a senior principal engineer specialising in positioning, navigation and timing at the\u00a0Defence Science and Technology Laboratory at Porton Down. He was\u00a0given an OBE for services to defence and security.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Wendy Cook, a\u00a0director at The Nephrotic Syndrome Trust (NeST), has been awarded an MBE for services to people with nephrotic syndrome, a condition\u00a0that causes the kidneys to leak large amounts of protein into the urine.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In her profile on the trust&#8217;s website, she said:\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve built up the charity shortly after its launch in 2005, motivated by my son&#8217;s diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome and re-occurrence in transplant.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI understand the challenges and isolation faced by many sufferers and their carers. I work closely with researchers to help fund and support research studies to find new therapies to beat this cruel kidney condition.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI\u2019m inspired not only by the research team, but also the wonderful NeST community who work tirelessly fundraising to keep Bristol research team supported with funds.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Pier-Maxine Pritchard, who previously worked as a social work senior manager at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salisburyjournal.co.uk\/topics\/wiltshire-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wiltshire Council<\/a>, has been honoured with an MBE for services to children and family social care.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Wiltshire Council chief executive Lucy Townsend said: \u201cThis honour is a fitting way to celebrate Pier\u2019s extraordinary work in children\u2019s social care.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWith over 40 years of dedicated service, Pier has been a tireless advocate for safeguarding and family support in Wiltshire.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cHer leadership in pioneering initiatives like Family Group Conferences, PAUSE, and the Family Drug and Alcohol Court has been vital in the success of our services and, on behalf of everyone at the council, I would like to congratulate Pier on receiving her well-deserved MBE.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The release of the honours provides an opportunity to celebrate\u00a0individual outstanding achievements and contributions to British society.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  High-profile recipients, announced on June 13, include former England football captain\u00a0David Beckham, actor Gary Oldman and The Who singer Roger Daltrey, who have been knighted.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Strictly Come Dancing presenting duo Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have been made Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
