{"id":18395,"date":"2025-04-14T05:14:19","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T05:14:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/18395\/"},"modified":"2025-04-14T05:14:19","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T05:14:19","slug":"the-gorgeous-beach-with-one-of-the-uks-best-chippies-an-hour-from-greater-manchester","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/18395\/","title":{"rendered":"The gorgeous beach with one of the UK\u2019s best chippies an hour from Greater Manchester"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With a Victorian pier, beach huts and a splash park, it&#8217;s perfect for a day out during the Easter holidays<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_JMP_MEN_251022LYTHAMSTANNES_030JPG.jpg\" alt=\"The huge beach at St Anne's with the pier in the distance \" loading=\"eager\"  \/>The huge beach at St Anne&#8217;s with the pier in the distance (Image: James Maloney\/Lancs Live)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">On sunny spring days it\u2019s hard to resist the pull of the seaside and with the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/easter\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Easter<\/a> holidays well underway, there\u2019s no better place for a family <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/days-out\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">day out<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">While Greater Manchester doesn\u2019t have a beach of its own, there\u2019s no shortage of coastal destinations on our doorstep from Llandudno in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/north-wales\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">North Wales<\/a> to Formby Beach in Lancashire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If a good old-fashioned seaside experience is what you\u2019re after then there\u2019s one place you need to head to &#8211; no, not Blackpool &#8211; but Lytham St Annes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Actually encompassing two towns &#8211; Lytham and St Annes &#8211; this spot on the Lancashire coast couldn\u2019t be more different to its famous neighbour.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_JMP_MEN_251022LYTHAMSTANNES_033JPG.jpg\" alt=\"St Annes' famous beach huts\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>You can hire out the iconic beach huts for the day (Image: James Maloney\/Lancs Live)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Compared to the noisy arcades and adrenaline-fueled rollercoasters of Blackpool, Lytham St Annes offers a calmer experience, full of relaxed coastal charm with a Victorian pier, a vast sandy beach, and pastel-coloured beach huts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If that wasn\u2019t enough to tempt you, this seaside town is also home to one of the best fish and chip shops in the UK, as named by The Times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Haven is something of a hidden-gem, tucked away on a back street with a delightfully old-fashioned interior. The M.E.N.&#8217;s Parents Editor Emma Gill recently went there to try the fish and chips, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink-news\/we-tried-seaside-chippy-near-29869056\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">describing it as \u201cperfectly cooked, with crispy batter and soft, flaky cod.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It\u2019s not the only aspect of this town that\u2019s received national recognition. Last year St Anne\u2019s beach was named among the<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/whats-on\/whats-on-news\/beach-hour-greater-manchester-among-29398505\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> \u201cthe best beaches in England&#8221;<\/a> and received a Seaside Award by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_JMP_MEN_190723THEHAVEN_17JPG.jpg\" alt=\"The Haven fish and chip shop was named one of the best in the UK \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Haven fish and chip shop was named one of the best in the UK (Image: James Maloney\/Lancs Live)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The huge golden beach is perfect for a spring walk and building sandcastles, as well as being a lovely picnic spot on a sunny day. The tide can move fast, but when it\u2019s out the beach is massive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Stretching out over the beach is the town\u2019s impressive 600ft Victorian Pier. It dates back to 1885 and features amusements, a cafe and ice cream kiosks. A walk to the end is rewarded with breathtaking views of the beach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">For the ultimate seaside experience you can hire one of the iconic beach huts for the day, which have everything you\u2019d need for a comfortable day at the beach including mains electricity, a small kitchen area, chairs and a table. You can book one hut for the day for groups of up to six people from \u00a3135.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">During warmer weather those with little kids can visit the Lytham St Anne\u2019s Splash park, which is open seven days a week from April to September. It\u2019s aimed at children aged three to 12 and offers a range of features including spray loops, water sprays, bucket drops, water domes and a small section for paddling.
