{"id":184407,"date":"2025-06-14T18:29:08","date_gmt":"2025-06-14T18:29:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/184407\/"},"modified":"2025-06-14T18:29:08","modified_gmt":"2025-06-14T18:29:08","slug":"uk-to-open-national-inquiry-into-child-grooming-gangs-months-after-musk-dustup-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/184407\/","title":{"rendered":"UK to open national inquiry into child grooming gangs months after Musk dustup \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Starmer and his government had previously argued the inquiry was unnecessary as there had already been a number of other investigations into individual cases. <\/p>\n<p>After receiving the results of the audit led by Louise Casey, a member of the House of Lords, Starmer said he would change course. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has looked at the material she has looked at and she has come to the view that there should be a national inquiry on the basis of what she has seen,\u201d Starmer said. \u201cI have read every single word of her report and I am going to accept her recommendation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister was rushed into making the announcement after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/uk\/crime\/article\/casey-to-call-for-new-national-inquiry-into-grooming-gangs-ktsf00vlm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Times reported Saturday morning<\/a> that Casey\u2019s report would call for a full public inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>There have been dozens of examples of underage working-class girls being exploited by grooming gangs in U.K. towns over the past 15 years.\u00a0Most of the high-profile cases, like in Rotherham and Rochdale, involved young Pakistani-origin men.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch hit out Starmer for not launching a large-scale investigation sooner and called for the full inquiry to move\u00a0quickly.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cMany survivors of the grooming gangs will be relieved that this is finally happening, but they need a resolution soon, not in several years\u2019 time,\u201d she said Saturday. \u201cJustice delayed is justice denied.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>UK Reform Leader Nigel Farage called Starmer\u2019s decision a \u201cwelcome U-turn.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA full statutory enquiry, done correctly, will expose the multiple failings of the British establishment.
