Since its formation, the ensemble has developed a distinctive sound that sets it apart from both traditional tango and its electronic offshoots. Instead, Fleurs Noires embraces a contemporary approach which isdynamic, nuanced, and firmly rooted in both classical training and popular influences.

Led by pianist, composer, and musical director Andrea Marsili, the orchestra performs original compositions created specifically for the group. For sure, these works retain the essence of tango while expanding it into a modern musical language, characterized by a refined yet forceful sensuality.

Moreover, Fleurs Noires reactivates the historic cultural link between Paris and Buenos Aires. In doing so, the ensemble challenges the genre’s long-standing male dominance by asserting a distinctively female presence. Each member brings a unique cultural and musical perspective, resulting in a repertoire that is both elegant and daring.

The lineup includes: Andrea Marsili – piano, composition, musical direction; Andrea Pujado – violin; Anne Le Pape – solo violin; Anne Vauchelet – double bass; Marion Chiron – solo bandoneon; Ana Carolina Poenitz – bandoneon; Veronica Votti – cello; Solenne Turquet-Bort – violin; Kristina Kuusisto – bandoneon; and Sophie Durteste – viola.

Discography:

Salida De Emergencia (Milan Records, 2012)
Orchestre De Tango (Milan Records, 2008)
A Contrafuego (Warner, 2016)

Author: Iliana Cabrera

Fleurs Noires is a ten-piece, all-female tango orchestra made up of musicians from Argentina and France.
