More than 2,000 runners are set to pace through the<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/wallasey\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> Wallasey<\/a> Tunnel on Sunday, April 13, in the 19th staging of Born To Run\u2019s Mersey Tunnel 10k.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The point-to-point race is the only time throughout the year when people can make their way through the \u2018new tunnel\u2019 on foot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">While many runners see the opportunity as a rare experience because of this, others use it as preparation for the London and Manchester Marathons at the end of the month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Mersey Tunnel 10K was reintroduced to the Merseyside sporting calendar back in 2006, and after a break in 2020 because of the global pandemic, it made a return in 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This year&#8217;s race starts just yards from the emergency Tunnel exit road on Bevington Bush on the Liverpool side of the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/river-mersey\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">River Mersey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_JS277235531.jpg\" alt=\"BTR Mersey Tunnel 10K race in Liverpool\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>BTR Mersey Tunnel 10K race in Liverpool(Image: Colin Lane)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It then drops directly down onto the main approach road, delivering a fast descent into the Kingsway Tunnel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Tunnel takes runners on a journey of just over 3K before exiting on the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/wirral\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Wirral<\/a> side of the river. At the halfway point, the course makes its way along Dock Road and the Seacombe Ferry terminal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The second half of the race takes runners along the promenade overlooking the River Mersey, showing off the impressive Liverpool skyline at its best.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_JS277235581.jpg\" alt=\"BTR Mersey Tunnel 10K race in Liverpool\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>BTR Mersey Tunnel 10K race in Liverpool(Image: Colin Lane)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The race finishes on Ian Fraser Walk at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/new-brighton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">New Brighton<\/a>, where runners will collect their commemorative finishers\u2019 medal and technical fabric running T-shirt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">As it doesn\u2019t loop back on itself, baggage buses transfer racers&#8217; belongings to the finish area once the race begins. Although entry for the race has sold out, five other BTR races are still accepting runners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Over the remaining months of the year, Liverpool and the Wirral will be transformed into a runner&#8217;s paradise, with distances to suit all abilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Some of the routes carved out, by BTR, showcase some of the region&#8217;s most iconic landmarks, including the city\u2019s waterfront, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/stanley-park\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Stanley Park<\/a> and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/west-kirby\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">West Kirby<\/a> Marine Lake.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Whether you&#8217;re a seasoned runner or just starting out, there&#8217;s an event for everyone, from fun runs to half marathons.
