UK travel operators have been told to ‘cancel’ Spain, Majorca, Tenerife holidays as protests continue to sweep the Balearics. European Union<\/a> holiday hotspots face rising and growing anti-UK tourist sentiment, with Brits warned.<\/p>\n

Another protest will take place on Sunday, June 15, to highlight the problems locals face due to overtourism.<\/p>\n

Responding to the demonstrations on Facebook, a Brit sniped on social media: “Notably the Spanish aren\u2019t slow in taking holiday makers money though.” A second said: “All UK travel agents should cancel holidays to Spain, Majorca and Tenerife due to non friendly actions against their clients and possible court cases.”<\/p>\n

Protests are likely in Ibiza, Menorca, San Sebasti\u00e1n, Granada, Tenerife, and M\u00e1laga. The campaigners say too much tourism prices out locals and causes environmental issues.<\/p>\n

A study by Fotocasa, the housing platform, last year showed that the average monthly rent in the Balearic Islands had risen from \u20ac562 to \u20ac1,451 in a decade, with prices considerably higher in hotspots such as Palma.<\/p>\n

In March, anti-tourism campaigners in Majorca published an open letter telling visitors \u201cnot to come\u201d and that they were \u201cthe source of our problem\u201d.<\/p>\n

“Protests are driven by eco warriors. I presume British people would not want foreign tourists to believe Just Stop Oil protestors?” another Brit wrote.<\/p>\n

Another said: “Go to Turkey it’s very hot in August… cheap to eat and drink and very good value we have been several times and have never had a bad time the locals are friendly to you.<\/p>\n

“We went out for a meal one evening and after we had finished we had a coffee and asked for a Brandy with it and they didn’t have Brandy and they sent out somebody and he came back with a Bottle of Brandy and gave us a glass each on the house. Give it a go you wont be dissapointed.”<\/p>\n
