Max Verstappen\u2019s<\/a> high risk of incurring a ban will make him more likely to take risks when fighting his rivals, not less, George Russell believes.<\/p>\n

The pair will share the front row of the grid for today\u2019s Canadian Grand Prix. Verstappen is racing under the threat of incurring an automatic one-race ban if he collects another penalty point on his licence, after he made contact with Russell at the last round in Spain.<\/p>\n

Verstappen has said the threat of a ban will not lead him to be more cautious when fighting his rivals for position<\/a>. Russell thinks it is likely to have the opposite effect on his rival.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think any driver goes out looking to crash into somebody and get penalty points on your licence,\u201d said Russell during yesterday\u2019s press conference after qualifying.<\/p>\n

\"Max<\/a>Feature: Verstappen versus Russell is Formula 1\u2019s best grudge match for years<\/a><\/strong>\u201cMax is one of the best drivers. There\u2019s no reason for him to race any differently, and I\u2019m not sitting here thinking he\u2019s going to give us more room. If anything, probably the opposite to try and prove a point.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I\u2019ll be keeping an eye [out], but ultimately, we\u2019re all here to win. You\u2019re not going to do something that\u2019s going to jeopardise yourself from the race.\u201d<\/p>\n

Russell also believes the impact of a race ban is less significant for a driver due to the length of the modern grand prix calendar.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a busy season as well,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you get a race ban, you get a race ban and spend some time at home. It\u2019s not ideal, but it\u2019s not the end of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oscar Piastri<\/a>, who will start third behind the pair, said he\u2019s \u201cnot going to race any differently\u201d with Verstappen. \u201cI\u2019m not going to take any less risk, any more risk,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m certainly not going to do anything different. I\u2019ll race as I always race.\u201d<\/p>\n
