{"id":186666,"date":"2025-06-15T15:28:13","date_gmt":"2025-06-15T15:28:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/186666\/"},"modified":"2025-06-15T15:28:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-15T15:28:13","slug":"anti-tourism-protesters-some-armed-with-water-pistols-call-for-change-in-spain-italy-and-portugal-world-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/186666\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-tourism protesters &#8211; some armed with water pistols &#8211; call for change in Spain, Italy and Portugal | World News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Protesters in Spain, Italy and Portugal are calling for a curb on mass tourism &#8211; with Barcelona organisers telling demonstrators to bring water pistols to shoot at holidaymakers.<\/p>\n<p>Campaigners say excessive levels of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/tourism-6258\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tourism<\/a> <\/strong>are forcing locals out of affordable housing, raising the cost of living and making the city centres unusable.<\/p>\n<p>The latest in <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/anti-tourism-protesters-target-diners-with-water-guns-in-barcelona-13174983\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>a growing number of protests<\/strong><\/a> in recent years, anti-mass tourism demonstrations were planned in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/barcelona-6849\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barcelona<\/a> <\/strong>as well as in seven other <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/spain-6015\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spanish<\/a> <\/strong>cities, including Granada, Palma and Ibiza.<\/p>\n<p>Protests were also seen in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/portugal-6515\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Portuguese<\/a> <\/strong>capital Lisbon, as well as in Italian hotspots <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/topic\/venice-8387\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Venice<\/strong><\/a>, Genova, Palermo, Milan and Naples, according to announcements issued by several of the organising groups.<\/p>\n<p>          <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"sdc-article-image__item\" loading=\"lazy\" intrinsicsize=\"768x432\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/skynews-barcelona-spain-tourism_6942674.jpg\"   alt=\"Demonstrators gather during a protest against mass tourism, in Barcelona, Spain.
