Here, experts have set the record straight on a ‘common’ fat jab complication that Sharon Osbourne is currently experiencingCredit: BackGrid<\/p>\n

Ozempic<\/a>, a medication originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes<\/a>, has now become almost as famous as the rapidly-thinning stars who may – or may not – be using it<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the poster child for a new wave of weight loss injections<\/a>, but is said to cause Ozempic neck<\/a>, Ozempic feet<\/a>, Ozempic butt<\/a> and even Ozempic lines<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Just last month, Fabulous revealed the newly discovered and incredibly brutal “Ozempic aftermath”<\/a>, as experts detailed some of the horrendous side effects that are flooding clinics.<\/p>\n

But not only should people be concerned about the effects it can have on skin<\/a>, teeth<\/a> and energy levels, as it turns out there\u2019s something else that fat jabs users<\/a> need to be aware of.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Millions across the world are using GLP-1 medications to slim down, using Ozempic<\/a>, Mounjaro<\/a>, Wegovy and Zepbound, to drop up to a fifth of their body weight<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The drugs<\/a>, which have been hailed a \u201cmiracle\u201d by some, work by mimicking GLP-1, a hormone released in the body when we are full.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While many celebrities, including Amy Schumer<\/a>, 43, and Lottie Moss<\/a>, 26, have lost huge amounts of weight and openly talked about using Ozempic, now, Sharon Osbourne<\/a>, 72, is said to be the latest victim of a worrying side effect.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While many are concerned that those using Ozempic will pile on the pounds immediately after coming off the fat jabs, according to experts, \u201cmany\u201d could experience the total opposite.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Not only may people find it \u201charder to gain weight\u201d after using Ozempic-like jabs, but they could also \u201clead to frailty\u201d, and muscle and strength loss, particularly for those in their 60s.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively to Fabulous<\/a>, experts have now set the record straight on why some will struggle to gain weight after using fat jabs<\/a> including, but not limited to, Ozempic.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Inside Hollywood’s worrying obsession with fat jabs – and what newly slimline Christina Aguilera really thinks of Ozempic claims<\/p>\n

Mohamed Imran Lakhi, director and superintendent pharmacist at Prescription Doctor<\/a>, who has over 20 years of experience, tells us: \u201cWhen people stop taking medications like Ozempic it\u2019s common to see changes in weight management.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOzempic works by slowing digestion<\/a> and reducing appetite, so when someone stops the treatment, their body may return to previous hunger and digestion patterns.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis can make it harder to gain weight at first because the body is still adjusting to normal insulin and appetite signals.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOver time, most people\u2019s weight will stabilise, but it can feel like a struggle initially.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis effect isn\u2019t unique to Sharon Osbourne. Many who use these medications experience similar challenges once they stop.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s important to manage expectations and work closely with healthcare providers to maintain a healthy weight through diet and lifestyle after stopping the medication.\u201d<\/p>\n

It comes after just days ago, Sharon, 72, sparked concern over her gaunt appearance<\/a> after being spotted out and about in Los Angeles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The former X Factor<\/a> judge also revealed that after using Ozempic, she is now unable to gain weight.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘Godzilla’ of fat jabs <\/p>\n

Dr Mitra Dutt, a\u00a0GP<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0Lloyds Pharmacy Online Doctor<\/a>, says: \u201cMounjaro works by activating two hormonal receptors (GIP and GLP-1), which enhance insulin production, improve insulin sensitivity and work to decrease food intake.\u201d<\/p>\n

Saxenda, which contains the active ingredient liraglutide, is another weight loss jab that’s been available on the NHS since 2020.<\/p>\n

While Mounjaro is hailed as the “King Kong” fat jabs, a\u00a0new weight loss drug dubbed “Godzilla”<\/a>\u00a0looks set to displace it.<\/p>\n

Containing the active ingredient retatrutide, slimmers trying the drug lost up to 29 per cent of their weight in less than a year.<\/p>\n

By comparison, trial results showed semaglutide, known as Ozempic, could lead to 15 per cent weight loss and tirzepatide, aka Mounjaro, to 23 per cent.<\/p>\n

Retatrutide acts on three different receptors in the brain, \u201cturbocharging\u201d calorie burning while dulling hunger pangs.<\/p>\n

Existing weight-loss jabs only suppress appetite, whereas the new treatment also speeds up metabolism.<\/p>\n

The new drug is still undergoing clinical trials so it’s not yet known if it will be made available on the NHS.<\/p>\n

The TV personality, who lost 42 pounds with the help of the diabetes drug, previously revealed she “didn’t actually want to go this thin”.<\/p>\n

Her frail look raised concern after she stepped out with daughter Aimee<\/a>, 41, for a shopping trip, just days ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The TV star’s face looked slimmer than ever, with her jawline incredibly pronounced.<\/p>\n

Not only this, but she also left fans concerned after she shared a clip on social media showing off her shrinking frame whilst wearing a loose fitting sweater<\/a> and cream trousers<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I weigh just over 7st. I need to put on 10lb, but however much I eat, I stay the same weight<\/p>\n

Concerned fans rushed to the comments, as one wrote: \u201cSharon, I love you but you are way too thin.\u201d<\/p>\n

A second chimed in: \u201cShe looks ill, poor thing,\u201d while someone else advised: \u201cPlease stop losing weight.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, another begged: \u201cPlease go eat a cheeseburger<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

While Sharon was initially pleased with her results after starting the medication back in December 2022, she has recently admitted fears she had taken it too far.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Revealing all on Howie Mandel<\/a>‘s podcast<\/a>, Sharon confessed: \u201cI can’t put on weight now, and I don’t know what it’s done to my metabolism<\/a>, but I just can’t seem to put any on, because I think I went too far.\u201d<\/p>\n

As well as this, Sharon recently told Daily Mail<\/a> about her “frustration” with the lingering effects, as she shared: \u201cNow, I weigh just over 7st. I need to put on 10lb, but however much I eat, I stay the same weight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’ve had enough. I’ve given up on all interventions. I couldn’t have much more facial surgery – there’s not that much skin left to stretch, pull or cut. And I won’t have any more fillers or Botox<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What are the other side effects of weight loss jabs?<\/p>\n

Like any medication, weight loss jabs can have side effects. <\/p>\n

Common side effects of injections such as Ozempic include: <\/p>\n

Nausea<\/strong>: This is the most commonly reported side effect, especially when first starting the medication. It often decreases over time as your body adjusts.<\/p>\n

Vomiting<\/strong>: Can occur, often in conjunction with nausea.<\/p>\n

Diarrhea<\/strong>: Some people experience gastrointestinal upset.<\/p>\n

Constipation<\/strong>: Some individuals may also experience constipation.<\/p>\n

Stomach pain or discomfort<\/strong>: Some people may experience abdominal pain or discomfort.<\/p>\n

Reduced appetite<\/strong>: This is often a desired effect for people using Ozempic for weight loss.<\/p>\n

Indigestion<\/strong>: Can cause a feeling of bloating or discomfort after eating.<\/p>\n

Serious side effects can also include:<\/p>\n

Pancreatitis<\/strong>: In rare cases, Ozempic may increase the risk of inflammation of the pancreas, known as pancreatitis, which can cause severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting.<\/p>\n

Kidney problems<\/strong>: There have been reports of kidney issues, including kidney failure, though this is uncommon.<\/p>\n

Thyroid tumors<\/strong>: There\u2019s a potential increased risk of thyroid cancer, although this risk is based on animal studies. It is not confirmed in humans, but people with a history of thyroid cancer should avoid Ozempic.<\/p>\n

Vision problems<\/strong>: Rapid changes in blood sugar levels may affect vision, and some people have reported blurry vision when taking Ozempic.<\/p>\n

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)<\/strong>: Especially if used with other medications like sulfonylureas or insulin.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don’t think I’ll ever be happy with the way I look.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI’ve learned my lesson. This is me. It’s finally time to leave well alone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Not only this, but Sharon claimed doctors are at a loss as to why she hasn’t been able to gain weight back after she stopped using Ozempic months ago, as she stressed: \u201cThe doctors can’t figure it out.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

But Kiran Jones, a clinical pharmacist at Oxford Online Pharmacy<\/a>, tells us that Ozempic users over 65 will struggle much more than others to gain weight after coming off of fat jabs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

It can become quite difficult to eat enough to put weight back on<\/p>\n

Kiran Jones<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Kiran says: \u201cMedia personality Sharon Osbourne has been vocal about her use of Ozempic and has lost over 40 pounds with the help of the popular medication.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, she\u2019s since revealed that she\u2019s struggling to regain weight since coming off the drug, as she feels she\u2019s lost too much weight.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile many people do regain weight after stopping Ozempic and other GLP-1s, this isn\u2019t always the case for patients over 65.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOlder adults often experience a natural decline in appetite as part of the ageing process. Add the lasting effects of a GLP-1 medicine<\/a>, and it can become quite difficult to eat enough to put weight back on.\u201d<\/p>\n

As well as this, Kiran adds: \u201cIn some cases, the weight loss itself changes the body\u2019s needs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWith less muscle and a slower metabolism, older patients simply don\u2019t need as much food, so if appetite stays low, weight regain<\/a> can slow or stop.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat looks like \u2018success\u2019 from a weight loss perspective can actually lead to frailty in this group, especially if they\u2019ve lost muscle or strength along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kiran observes a \u201cshift\u201d that can \u201cstick\u201d, as she continues: \u201cMany patients adjust their habits while on Ozempic, they start eating smaller meals and feeling full faster.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat shift can stick, even after stopping the medication. For older people, who may already eat lightly, this can make it even harder to increase food intake again.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s worth noting that older adults are more vulnerable to the side effects of nausea or stomach upset, even after stopping. <\/p>\n

“If food feels unappealing or difficult to digest, eating more becomes a real challenge.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor patients over 65, weight management after Ozempic needs a more tailored approach. It\u2019s not just about weight on the scale. It\u2019s about strength, function, and making sure people stay well-nourished.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis group may benefit from extra clinical support, not just during treatment but also after, especially if they\u2019re struggling to gain weight or feel well.\u201d<\/p>\n

It could potentially have put her in a position where it is extremely hard to regain the weight she has lost, with regards to muscle and bone strength<\/p>\n

Dr. Ed Robinson<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Similarly, Dr Ed Robinson<\/a>, a leading aesthetic doctor, recognises that perimenopausal women<\/a>, as well as those battling menopause<\/a>, may struggle to gain weight after using Ozempic.<\/p>\n

Dr Ed explains: \u201cThe only way in which Ozempic could have long-term effects like this is if you lost so much weight and so much muscular atrophy while taking the drug.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThen it is very difficult to put weight back on – especially for menopausal or postmenopausal women who don\u2019t have the levels of hormone anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Ed describes Sharon as \u201cso thin\u201d and \u201cquite frail looking\u201d, as he concludes: \u201cIt could potentially have put her in a position where it is extremely hard to regain the weight she has lost, with regards to muscle and bone strength.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you are too frail, it is hard to do the necessary exercises<\/a> to boost strength.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
