Viktor Hovland has been grinding away all week at Oakmont and he hopes his hard work will bring US Open glory this evening.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hovland heads into Sunday\u2019s final round in Pennsylvania<\/a> in fourth on the leaderboard, three shots behind overnight leader Sam Burns.<\/p>\n

Hovland was the last man on the range on Saturday night<\/p>\n

After bogeying two of his first three holes on Saturday, the Norwegian star battled back to secure a level par round and make sure he’s right in contention for the US Open title today.<\/p>\n

Despite yet another gruelling round at the incredibly tough Oakmont<\/a>, Hovland was seen putting in the work on the range after his long day’s work.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old was the last man on the practice facility as his rivals had turned in for the night.<\/p>\n

With his caddie Shay Knight and his coaches watching on, Hovland was seen smashing balls as the sun set in Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

The Ryder Cup star\u2019s driving was poor on Saturday and he\u2019ll hope his hard work pays off heading down the stretch today.<\/p>\n

Asked about some of his weak shots before he hit the range, Hovland said: “I just have to figure that out, but at the end of the day, to have the chance to win tomorrow is just absolutely amazing.<\/p>\n

“I’m really proud of the way I fought back and I’m still in the thick of this.<\/p>\n

“I’m really happy to have a chance to win a major championship. It’s amazing and I’m buzzing for that, so I just have to keep grinding and hopefully we’ll get it done.<\/p>\n

“It was obviously not the ideal start today but I knew my game was good, so if I could get the ball in play I could rely on my irons and make some putts.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI feel like I\u2019ve matured a lot more, just seen a lot more stuff happening.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hovland was joined by his caddie and coaches during a late night practice<\/p>\n

\u201cI know kind of what it takes to win a major championship, so I know the shots to try to hit and what shots not to try to hit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like I\u2019m way better equipped, just need to get that driver sorted, and I\u2019ve got the game to do it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it\u2019s like I\u2019m super proud that I\u2019m that close, but it\u2019s frustrating that the driver is still just holding me back a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hovland was on the range on Saturday night until 8:52pm local time after going through a 55-minute post-round session.<\/p>\n

His hard work is not just about trying to win tournaments but also about finding satisfaction in seeing his efforts pay off.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cSure, we would all like to win, that\u2019s why we practice so hard. But there\u2019s also like a deep passion in me that I want to hit the shots.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to stand up on the tee and hit the shots that I\u2019m envisioning. When the ball\u2019s not doing that, it bothers me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hovland has eleven career victories to date, including big wins at Memorial, the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship.<\/p>\n

While he also claimed Ryder Cup and FedexCup glory in 2023, a major win would eclipse everything he\u2019s done so far.<\/p>\n

Asked about his gameplan for Sunday, Hovland said: \u201cYeah, another boring answer. I don\u2019t think this is a course where you can kind of get too crazy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to play smart, play for middle of the greens and give yourself a lot of looks and hopefully get that putter hot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hovland is in the penultimate group for Sunday\u2019s final round<\/a> and will tee off alongside JJ Spaun at 7:04pm UK time.<\/p>\n

The leading group of Burns and Adam Scott will then get underway at 7:15pm.<\/p>\n
