At present, the <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> provides a regular financial income for 13 million older people across the country, including more than one million retirees living in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>The payment is available to individuals who have reached the UK Government&#8217;s retirement age\u2014currently 66 for both men and women\u2014and have made at least 10 years of National Insurance (NI) contributions. But, people over 80 who either receive no Basic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> or have a weekly income below \u00a3105.70 may be entitled to extra financial support to help with everyday expenses. The &#8216;Over 80 Pension&#8217; provides \u00a3105.70 per week to those without a Basic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> or tops up payments to reach that amount, reports <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/lifestyle\/money\/extra-state-pension-older-people-35366857\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/lifestyle\/money\/extra-state-pension-older-people-35366857\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Daily Record. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>So this means those born in or before 1945 are eligible to receive these benefits if they meet the requirements.<\/p>\n<p>The guidance on GOV.UK indicates that you can claim the over 80 pension if all of the following conditions are met:<\/p>\n<p>-You are 80 or over<\/p>\n<p>-You do not get Basic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> or your Basic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> is less than \u00a3105.70 a week<\/p>\n<p>-You were resident in the UK for at least 10 years out of 20 (this does not have to be 10 years in a row) &#8211; this 20 year period must include the day before you turned 80 or any day after<\/p>\n<p>-You were \u201cordinarily resident\u201d in the UK, the Isle of Man or Gibraltar on your 80th birthday or the date you made the claim for this pension, if later.<\/p>\n<p>To claim the over 80 pension, it&#8217;s essential to recognise that claims are not permitted if you reached <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> age post- April 6 2016 &#8211; those individuals fall under the New <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> scheme.<\/p>\n<p>To make a claim, you can get a form from either your local Jobcentre Plus or the Pension Service. The earliest you can claim is three months before your 80th birthday. You can request a claim form from the Pension Service by ringing 0800 731 7898.<\/p>\n<p>Pension Credit boosts weekly income to a guaranteed minimum level of \u00a3227.10 for single pensioners or \u00a3346.60 for couples. This tax-free payment is available for those who have reached the Pension Credit qualifying age, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension<\/a> age, and reside in Great Britain.<\/p>\n<p>The quickest method to verify eligibility for Pension Credit is through an online check.
