Canadian golfer Corey Conners was forced to withdraw from the US Open at Oakmont Country Club just hours before Sunday’s final round due to a wrist injury he sustained in a bizarre manner.<\/p>\n

Conners had positioned himself in the top 15 after three rounds, sitting at eight over par and within striking distance of a lucrative finish.<\/p>\n

Conners initially sustained the injury during Thursday’s opening round when he caught a television cable while attempting to play from a bunker.<\/p>\n

The injury worsened during Saturday’s third round, ultimately forcing his withdrawal despite being on track for a potential top-10 finish.<\/p>\n

The freak incident occurred at the 11th hole during Thursday’s first round when Conners struck a television cable while playing from a bunker.<\/p>\n

He completed his opening round with a two-over 72 despite the injury.<\/p>\n

The wrist problem flared up again during Saturday’s third round at the same hole.<\/p>\n

Playing partner Michael Kim witnessed the incident, noting on X that Conners “plugged his bunker shot and while trying to hit out of it, hurt his wrist.”<\/p>\n

The injury flared back up on Saturday for Corey Conners<\/p>\n

Conners received on-course treatment that took approximately 20 minutes to arrive.<\/p>\n

He underwent additional medical attention Saturday night, including imaging work, before ultimately withdrawing Sunday morning after cutting short his warm-up session.<\/p>\n

The withdrawal cost Conners a significant payday from the $21.5million (\u00a315.9million) prize pool.<\/p>\n

A top-10 finish would have earned him at least $500,000, adding to his already impressive 2025 earnings of over $5million (\u00a33.7million).<\/p>\n

The Ontario native was also chasing an automatic invitation to next year’s US Open, which comes with a top-10 placement. He entered the week ranked ninth in the FedEx Cup standings.<\/p>\n

Kim praised Conners’ performance before the injury, writing that the Canadian “didn’t miss a shot on the front nine” and was “pretty easy 3 under” before the bunker incident derailed his round.<\/p>\n

Conners has maintained strong form in majors, making the cut in seven consecutive championships since missing the weekend at the 2023 US Open.<\/p>\n
