Red Bull has officially launched protests against George Russell’s Canadian Grand Prix victory, following a late incident with Max Verstappen.<\/p>\n
Russell controlled the race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve from pole position and never looked back, with Verstappen having sat in second for the entire race.\u00a0<\/p>\n
However, the pair found themselves back together in the final laps, following a late safety car caused by the McLarens crashing into each other.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The race finished behind the safety car; however, along the main straight, Verstappen momentarily found himself ahead, due to Russell suddenly braking aggressively.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It resulted in an immediate complaint from the four-time world champion over the radio, resulting in a clear message from race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase.<\/p>\n
“George suddenly just aggressively braked,” complained Verstappen. It led to Lambiase responding by saying: “Understood, thank you, we will check for any erratic driving.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Russell was on his radio complaining about Verstappen, in what appeared to be a possible attempt to catch the Dutchman out to trigger a penalty point to cause a race ban.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Russell said: “Verstappen just overtook me under the safety car.”<\/p>\n
After quickly watching the incident back, Lambiase was sharply back on the radio to Verstappen, informing him to be careful with the Mercedes driver.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Lambiase told Verstappen: “That incident with Russell now being shown on the feeds, Max, it’s pretty blatant. Just don’t fall for the gamesmanship, OK?
