Gangland<\/a> thug Sean \u201cLugs\u201d McGovern has fled to the Costa Del Sol amid fears of being targeted in another underworld hit.<\/p>\n

McGovern, 41, quit for a fresh start in Spain after recently being released from jail<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sources claim he was even hanging out with hood Ross Monaghan before he was fatally gunned<\/a> down last month alongside Eddie Lyons Jnr.<\/p>\n

Drug<\/a> dealer McGovern is a sworn enemy of Edinburgh crime boss Mark Richardson and was brutally slashed by his gang during a home visit in 2016.<\/p>\n

A source said: \u201cLugs couldn\u2019t be bothered with all the hassle<\/a> in \u00adEdinburgh and didn\u2019t want to be constantly looking over his shoulder.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter being slashed a few years back, he knows \u00adRichardson doesn\u2019t mess about. His son is being brought up by Richardson\u2019s<\/a> brother, so the issues will never go away.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s gone to Spain and is making contacts over there. After spending the best part of 16 years inside, he\u2019s enjoying freedom<\/a> in the sunshine. He was even spotted hanging about with \u00adMonaghan before he was killed<\/a>. They enjoyed a mutual hatred of \u00adRichardson, so it\u2019s no surprise they became pals.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a recent snap, McGovern<\/a> is seen enjoying a beer with his gang of cronies in an Irish bar.<\/p>\n

In 2016, he was targeted in the slashing<\/a> in \u00adEdinburgh city centre while about to return to prison after home leave. Two hitmen set upon him with blades \u2013 witnessed by a Daily Record reporter and photographer \u2013 before fleeing in a Skoda.<\/p>\n

One of Richardson\u2019s chief lieutenants was later jailed<\/a> for six years for his role in the ambush. McGovern spent nine days on the run after fleeing from an open jail<\/a> almost two years ago.<\/p>\n

A description issued by police included details of the scar<\/a> left on his face after the 2016 attack.<\/p>\n

He was caged for 16 years in 2009 after admitting heroin<\/a> dealing and a gun attack on an Edinburgh pub. After early release in 2018, he was ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work for spitting on a prison<\/a> guard.<\/p>\n

He was then hauled back to jail<\/a> after smashing up his phone as police looked on.<\/p>\n

Richardson, 38, is at the centre of an ongoing gangland feud with Dubai-based Mr Big, Ross McGill<\/a>. It has led to multiple firebombings and violent attacks in \u00adEdinburgh and Glasgow.<\/p>\n
