If Scottie Scheffler doesn\u2019t claim US Open glory today, you can bet he\u2019s only rooting for one other guy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Scheffler became a three-time major champion at the PGA Championship last month but has found the going tough at Oakmont this week, like so many others.<\/p>\n

One player who has dealt with the challenges of the famous Pennsylvania course well is Scheffler\u2019s close friend, Sam Burns.<\/p>\n

Burns is the overnight leader going into Sunday\u2019s<\/a> pivotal final round in the 125th US Open.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old hit a stunning 65 on Friday to race up the leaderboard and his one-under 69 on Saturday secured him top spot in the standings going into the finale.<\/p>\n

Burns is yet to taste major glory but has seen Scheffler do so at close quarters.<\/p>\n

The two have been friends since they were teenagers and Burns was Scheffler’s best man at his wedding.<\/p>\n

The Ryder Cup duo and their families share a house during major tournament weeks.<\/p>\n

And Scheffler has revealed how the morning routine will look for the duo before they head to the pressurised environment of Oakmont.<\/p>\n

The two-time Masters champion said: \u201cThe conversation in the morning will be that we\u2019ll just hang out, there will be our two little kids running around. There\u2019s nothing crazy, there\u2019s not much to say.<\/p>\n

\u201cSam has been preparing for moments like this for a long time and he\u2019s put himself into a position to win the golf tournament. He\u2019s going to go out and try to execute.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the day, all he\u2019s going to do is try to do his best and that\u2019s what I\u2019m going to do tomorrow as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burns is closing in on US Open glory<\/p>\n

Scheffler will need to go low on Sunday and hope for a lot of help from his rivals if he is to add the US Open to his already glittering CV.<\/p>\n

But for Burns, he has a great chance of glory in Oakmont and to claim the biggest win of his career so far<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And Burns has been speaking about seeing Scheffler\u2019s success up close.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cScottie is obviously an incredible player, I don\u2019t think I need to say that.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe spend a lot of time together and being able to talk to him, learn from him and ask him questions has been really cool.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs good of a player he is, he\u2019s an even better guy and I think that\u2019s what makes it really special to watch, you want to root for someone like that. He\u2019s an easy guy to root for.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been nice to pick his brain and ask him certain things.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if he\u2019s been a little jealous of Scheffler\u2019s success, Burns added: \u201cOf course, as a competitor, that\u2019s why we show up to play and we play to win.<\/p>\n

\u201cWatching him have success brings me a lot of joy.<\/p>\n

\u201cHim, his wife Meredith and son Bennett, they are an unbelievable family and it\u2019s been such a joy to watch how they steward that success to others around them.<\/p>\n
