The 2025 Club World Cup is already proving to be a tournament we have never seen in football before – but some big teams are missing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The competition<\/a> has been expanded to include 32 teams from across the world, and it will now take place every four years.<\/p>\n

This means even more of the elite clubs from around the globe are coming up against each other, aiming to get their hands on some silverware and a whopping amount of prize money.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The tournament is taking place in the United States this summer and officially got underway on June 15.<\/p>\n

From the Premier League, Manchester City<\/a> and Chelsea<\/a> have been preparing to get their group stage started.<\/p>\n

But Manchester United<\/a>, Arsenal<\/a> and Liverpool<\/a> aren’t involved…<\/p>\n

Why are Man United, Liverpool and Arsenal not in the Club World Cup?<\/strong><\/p>\n

FIFA<\/a> rules for the Club World Cup<\/a> state that only two teams from each country can take part in the tournament.\u00a0<\/p>\n

12 places were handed out to teams in Europe, and they were decided by the clubs\u2019 performances in the Champions League<\/a> over the last four seasons.<\/p>\n

Because Man City and Chelsea have won the Champions League in that time, they take up the two English spots in the competition.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Liverpool reached the final in 2022, but that still wasn\u2019t good enough to displace City and the Blues, who won it in 2023 and 2021, respectively.<\/p>\n

Man United and Arsenal had to win the Champions League two seasons ago to qualify, but neither of them managed to do so.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It meant that all three of the Premier League<\/a> giants missed out, and therefore, they aren’t part of the 2025 Club World Cup.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The same UEFA<\/a> ranking rules and two-team restrictions have seen some other European big-hitters miss out.<\/p>\n

Barcelona<\/a>, AC Milan, Napoli, RB Leipzig and Sevilla aren’t playing in the tournament either.<\/p>\n

Clubs that are in the USA include Real Madrid<\/a>, Bayern Munich<\/a>, Paris Saint-Germain<\/a>, Juventus and Atletico Madrid.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Benfica, Porto, Borussia Dortmund<\/a>, Inter Milan<\/a> and Red Bull Salzburg make up the 12 European representatives in the competition.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Four teams from Asia, Africa and the North and Central America federation are also playing along with six from South America and one from Oceania.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A place in the Club World Cup was reserved for a team from the host nation too, and Lionel Messi<\/a>\u2019s Inter Miami will be involved because of that.\u00a0<\/p>\n
