A Seat Ibiza driver was clocked travelling at a whopping 90mph in the West Midlands.<\/p>\n
The motorist was spotted by police speeding along the A38 Sutton Bypass on August 30.<\/p>\n
He had travelled up from Milton Keynes – around 70 miles away – for an illegal street cruising event.<\/p>\n

This means the Seat Ibiza which has been seized is likely to be crushed.<\/p>\n The A38 is a dual carriageway that bypasses Sutton Coldfield<\/a> from Minworth and up to Swinfen.<\/p>\n The driver was one of 18 motorists who have been convicted of dangerous driving and banned from the roads over the past six months.<\/p>\n Disqualifications range from 12 months to two years, with some drivers receiving suspended sentences.<\/p>\n The police action has been made as part of Operation Hercules, an ongoing campaign targeting drivers involved in street racing, car cruising, or where vehicles are driven in an anti-social or dangerous manner.<\/p>\n West Midlands Police<\/a> say a further 12 people are awaiting a court date as part of the operation.<\/p>\n PC Mark Campbell, from Op Hercules, said: “We need motorists to understand that we won\u2019t tolerate illegal street racing or cruising on the region\u2019s roads and will take action against motorists who flout the law and put other road users at risk.<\/p>\n “We\u2019ve brought 18 people to court for taking part in illegal street racing and driving dangerously on our roads in Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n “Our ultimate aim is to keep people safe. People have been killed and seriously injured while street racing and it\u2019s simply unacceptable to put other motorists at risk in such a reckless way.<\/p>\n “We work closely with our partners on a range of tactics to identify, disrupt and enforce against those taking part or observing. Our priority is keeping the roads safe for all.”<\/p>\n It comes as there is a current ban on street racing in Birmingham and the Black Country due to High Court rulings.<\/p>\n Anyone breaching the ban will be in contempt of court and could face penalties including imprisonment, a fine, or an order to have their assets seized.<\/p>\n The injunctions prohibit people driving, being a passenger or rider at a gathering where there is motor racing, stunts or other dangerous or obstructive driving.<\/p>\n They cover Birmingham and the whole of the boroughs of Wolverhampton, Dudley<\/a>, Sandwell<\/a> and Walsall<\/a>.<\/p>\n Incidents of street racing should be reported to us on Live Chat on our website or call us on 101.
