Masked figures firebombed several properties.<\/p>\n
Two men have appeared in court charged in connection with an alleged gangland firebomb attack<\/a> and the recovery of a firearm.<\/p>\n Liam McDermid<\/a> and Denin Mackenzie were taken into custody by officers<\/a> investigating a spate of violent incidents across Edinburgh and Glasgow.<\/p>\n They appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court<\/a> to face a number of charges.<\/p>\n McDermid, 25, was arrested and charged after a firearm was found at Roseburn Path in Edinburgh, on Wednesday, June 11.<\/p>\n He appeared in the dock to face a charge relating to being involved in serious organised crime<\/a> under Section 28(1) of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010.<\/p>\n He made no plea and was remanded into custody.<\/p>\n Raids<\/a> also took place at addresses in South Queensferry and Edinburgh after a vehicle was firebombed while parked on Peacocktail Close in Edinburgh on Friday, May 16.<\/p>\n Mackenzie, of Edinburgh, was taken into custody by police and appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court<\/a> on Monday, June 16, where he faced five charges.<\/p>\n The 22-year-old was charged with two counts of knife possession<\/a>, one charge of wilful fireraising and one charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive way and one of vandalism.<\/p>\n The vandalism charge was in relation to a property.<\/p>\n He made no plea and was remanded into custody<\/a>.<\/p>\n Both men are expected to appear in the dock again next week.<\/p>\n A 21-year-old man was also detained<\/a> in the raids and has reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with wilful fireraisings at three properties in April.<\/p>\n Homes in Glasgow’s<\/a> Gala Street and Ashgill Road, and Meadow Court in Stepps, North Lanarkshire, were allegedly torched in the early hours of April 7.<\/p>\n Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today.<\/p>\n You’ll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland.<\/p>\n No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Daily Record team.<\/p>\n All you have to do is click here if you’re on mobile<\/strong><\/a>, select ‘Join Community’ and you’re in!<\/p>\n If you’re on a desktop, simply scan the QR code above with your phone and click ‘Join Community’.<\/p>\n We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners. Another clip showed flaming projectiles being thrown into windows at a property.<\/p>\n On Monday detectives arrested another man in connection with an alleged firebombing on March 6 at Edinburgh beauty salon Belle Cheveux. The owner of the premises has previously been linked to Edinburgh<\/a> cocaine kingpin Mark Richardson.<\/p>\n It takes the number of arrests in Police Scotland’s<\/a> Operation Portaledge to 45.<\/p>\n The force said a dedicated team of officers from the Specialist Crime Division are continuing to crackdown on spiralling violence across Scotland’s two biggest cities.<\/p>\n Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Ferry<\/a> said: “Our continued activity and arrests show our commitment to targeting organised crime and bringing those responsible to justice.<\/p>\n “We continue to investigate<\/a> and follow a number of positive lines of enquiry.
