{"id":189792,"date":"2025-06-16T19:51:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-16T19:51:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/189792\/"},"modified":"2025-06-16T19:51:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-16T19:51:10","slug":"first-reds-bid-for-newcastle-star-came-really-close-as-200m-double-deal-mooted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/189792\/","title":{"rendered":"First Reds bid for Newcastle star came &#8216;really close&#8217; as \u00a3200m double deal mooted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Liverpool will need \u201chuge offers\u201d to prise two Newcastle players away from St James\u2019 Park this summer but came \u201creally close\u201d with their first bid to sign one of them.<\/p>\n<p>Reds sporting director Richard Hughes isn\u2019t wasting any time in bolstering Arne Slot\u2019s title-winning squad this summer, with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/liverpool-ornstein-final-agreed-fee-florian-wirtz-romano-price-off\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the British-record signing of Florian Wirtz for \u00a3116m imminently expected<\/a><\/strong> to follow the \u00a329.7m addition of Jeremie Frimpong, with both arriving from Bayer Leverkusen.<\/p>\n<p>And the door has now been opened for Milos Kerkez to arrive as their third summer signing as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/liverpool-romano-clear-update-100-guaranteed-signing-14-5m-transfer-complete\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bournemouth announced the transfer\u00a0of\u00a0Adrien Truffert from Rennes for \u00a314.5m as his replacement<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not yet clear what Liverpool will have to pay for Kerkez with Bournemouth valuing the Hungary international at \u00a345m, but transfer expert <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/liverpool-next-signing-100-guarantee-fsg-agreement-enormous-deal-wirtz-kerkez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Florian Plettenburg claimed over the weekend that\u00a0Liverpool are \u201c100% convinced\u201d that they will sign Kerkez this summer.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He tweeted: \u2018Liverpool are 100% convinced that the transfer of Milos #Kerkez will go through.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It is set to be finalised once Florian Wirtz has signed and been presented. A verbal agreement between #LFC and Kerkez is done.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>talkSPORT\u2019s chief football correspondent Alex Crook says he \u201calways expected Liverpool to go big\u201d this summer.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/football\/3292717\/liverpool-transfer-spending-florian-wirtz-milos-kerkez\/\" target=\"_blank\">He explained<\/a><\/strong>: \u201cThey have got money because they haven\u2019t really spent in the last couple of years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey signed (Giorgi) Mamardashvili, he\u2019s going to come in as a backup goalkeeper to Alisson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey signed (Federico) Chiesa for a relatively modest sum, again, a move that probably hasn\u2019t particularly worked out.
