(Picture: Amer Ghazzal\/Shutterstock)<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s time to dig out the sun umbrellas and stay hydrated as UK temperatures look set to soar for the rest of the week.<\/p>\n<p>A plume of warm air is being dragged in from <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/europe-travel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Europe<\/a>, meaning parts of the country could be hotter than Istanbul this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Forecasters predict it will be <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/london\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London<\/a> and the south of <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/england\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">England<\/a> that will be baking in the hottest of this week\u2019s rising temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>Is there officially going to be a heatwave this week?<\/p>\n<p>Some Britons are set to bask in a <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/heatwave\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">heatwave<\/a> this week. <\/p>\n<p>The Met Office<a href=\"https:\/\/weather.metoffice.gov.uk\/learn-about\/weather\/types-of-weather\/temperature\/heatwave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> defines the weather event<\/a> as when temperatures meet or exceed the threshold for a specific area for three consecutive days.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"676\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/SEI_255765903-a15d.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-23429633\" alt=\"A graphic showing hot how it has to be in different areas of the UK, for three consecutive days, to count as a heatwave. In cities such as Bristol, Cardiff and Manchester the thresholds are 27, 26 and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tMaps show how hot it has to be in different areas of the UK, for three consecutive days, to count as a heatwave (Picture: Metro)<\/p>\n<p>As shown in the map above, in <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/london\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London<\/a>, this is 28\u00b0C, whereas in cities including Bristol, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/cardiff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cardiff<\/a> and <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/manchester\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manchester<\/a>, the threshold is 27\u00b0C, 26\u00b0C and 25\u00b0C, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Tony Wisson, deputy chief meteorologist at the Met Office, said: \u2018By the beginning of the weekend, we could very well be meeting heatwave thresholds in places.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018While the warmest temperatures are likely across London and the east of England, by Saturday heatwave thresholds could be reached across much of the Midlands, low-lying areas bordering the Peak District and even parts of east Wales.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>How long will the hot weather last?<\/p>\n<p>The burst of heat is expected to peak this weekend before easing early next week.<\/p>\n<p>There is uncertainty in how quickly it will cool, with some models predicting temperatures in the mid-30s by Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tLatest London news\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p><strong>To get the latest news from the capital visit Metro&#8217;s<\/strong><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/london\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> London news hub<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s thought the south of England could cling onto the warmer weather for a bit longer and perhaps even stick around for <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/glastonbury-festival\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glastonbury\u2019s <\/a>kick-off <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/06\/15\/every-single-glastonbury-headliner-year-including-last-minute-drop-outs-2-23401195\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on June 25<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Which areas of the UK will see the warmest weather?<\/p>\n<p>Forecasters are expecting temperatures in London to soar to 29\u00b0C by Thursday, reaching 31\u00b0C by Friday and then peaking at 32\u00b0C by Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The hot weather is then expected to spread further north, with Manchester and Newcastle enjoying temperatures into the late 20s by the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Some parts of the country will surpass temperatures in holiday hotspots such as Lisbon, Portugal, and Barcelona, Spain \u2013 which are predicted to reach 29\u00b0C on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The Met Office said several places were expected to exceed 30\u00b0C on Saturday, surpassing Nice, France and making them the UK\u2019s highest temperatures of the year so far.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"620\" height=\"546\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/SEI_255703553-4c5b.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-23423869\" alt=\"UK weather forecast for June 19.\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tMet Office UK weather forecast for June 19 (Picture: Nigel Ramdial)<br \/>\nWhat is the hottest the UK has ever been?<\/p>\n<p>The Met Office confirmed the UK\u2019s record high temperature was 40.3\u00b0C.
