TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The room may look like it\u2019s set up for a massage. It\u2019s actually meant for treatments by something brand new.<\/p>\n
The device is called Exomind. It offers an updated way to administer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, or TMS, which is a method to promote mental wellness that\u2019s been around for decades.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt goes over the left dorsal lateral pre-frontal cortex is the part of the brain that\u2019s in charge of, like, your moods and behaviors and those types of things, and then it delivers these pulses,\u201d explained Michelle Fuhr, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. \u201cIt improves the neuroplasticity in the brain, so it\u2019s really, like, helping with those networks. So, your neuro transmitters are going and firing where they need to go, and kind of going down the right path.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fuhr runs Health 419, 1715 Indian Wood Cir Suite 200, Maumee, OH 43537. Her location is the first one in Northwest Ohio to have the Exomind device, which came out earlier this year.<\/p>\n
Exomind is FDA-cleared to treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), but the company behind Exomind, BTL, said it could also help in other areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will help with memory and, like, behavior regulation. It\u2019s going to help with your mood, so it\u2019s going to help with, like, OCD impulse control kind of things,\u201d said Fuhr.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s non-invasive, with treatments lasting 30 minutes, and it\u2019s drug-free.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s just a little paddle that lays across your head. Feels like maybe a tapping sensation. You can hear the tapping. Otherwise, that\u2019s it,\u201d explained Fuhr. \u201cNo medication. No anesthesia. You come in, you get your treatment, and you leave, You go on with your day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fuhr said you don\u2019t need a clinical diagnosis, as she sees Exomind as a way to improve overall mental wellness. She\u2019s even tried out the treatments herself.<\/p>\n
