The race: the inaugural Bluff Knoll. The horse: Gemma\u2019s Son.<\/p>\n<p>When Gemma\u2019s Son held out favourite Oscar\u2019s Fortune to score an upset win in Albany\u2019s first slot race it was a racing moment that Lee-Altieri would never wipe from her memory.<\/p>\n<p>New trainer, favourite horse, first win, it was a fairytale start to her fledgling training career, stepping out of the shadows after going about her business quietly behind the scenes with long-time mentor, David Harrison.<\/p>\n<p>In a magnanimous gesture that gave her training career a big kick along, Harrison gifted Gemma\u2019s Son to Lee Altieri after the Snippetson gelding won eight races including a Perth Magic Millions double under his direction.<\/p>\n<p>Gemma\u2019s Son has not reached the same winning heights as the Bluff Knoll, but Lee Altieri remains confident the seven-year-old has another feature win left in him, beginning with next month\u2019s Listed Beaufine Stakes (1000m).<\/p>\n<p>After two warm up trials, fresh, first up and on rain affected tracks, Lee Altieri expects Gemma\u2019s Son to create an impact.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019d love to relive the same emotional high as the Bluff Knoll once again.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t think there will be anything like the Bluff Knoll,\u201d Lee Altieri said to Racing WA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust being the first one and the way he won.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe whole weekend was just a blur.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love all my horses, but he\u2019s very special to me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor him to be my first winner was a fairytale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gemma\u2019s Son ticked the final box ahead of his winter campaign with a sharp trial win.<\/p>\n<p>Without being fully tested by jockey Lucy Fiore, he cruised to the line under his own steam in a solid hit out.<\/p>\n<p>Lee Altieri\u2019s focus is now firmly fixed on the Beaufine Stakes on July 5.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe went super,\u201d Lee Altieri said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had a little hit out with our apprentice two weeks ago but today (Monday) was a bit more of a hit out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s had foot problems, and the plan all along has been to bring him back for the softer tracks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI might be a bit biased but I\u2019m confident that he will go close first up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s definitely well in himself and is showing no signs of slowing down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe still loves his work and is really happy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis gallops at home have been very good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gemma&#8217;s Son, a $20,000 yearling, has returned $1.3 million to his owners.<\/p>\n<p>He ran second to Nerodio in the 2021 edition of the Beaufine Stakes. <\/p>\n<p>Julio Santarelli\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It\u2019s been just over a year since young trainer Embroja-Lee Altieri experienced her best moment in racing and&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":190731,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4107],"tags":[1071,79,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-190730","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-racing","8":"tag-racing","9":"tag-sports","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/114696778153194097","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/190730","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=190730"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/190730\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/190731"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=190730"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=190730"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=190730"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
