{"id":191359,"date":"2025-06-17T09:50:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-17T09:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/191359\/"},"modified":"2025-06-17T09:50:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-17T09:50:09","slug":"disrespect-to-us-ukraine-slams-russias-horrific-bombardment-of-kyiv-russia-ukraine-war-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/191359\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Disrespect to US\u2019: Ukraine slams Russia\u2019s \u2018horrific\u2019 bombardment of Kyiv | Russia-Ukraine war News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Waves of Russian missile and drone strikes have killed at least 15 people and injured 116 others, with most of the casualties in Kyiv, Ukrainian officials have reported.<\/p>\n<p>The massive aerial assault overnight into Tuesday struck 27 locations in the Ukrainian capital, damaging residential buildings and critical infrastructure, according to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian officials were quick to call for international attention on the attacks as Kyiv pushes diplomatic efforts to raise pressure on Moscow to agree a ceasefire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, the enemy spared neither drones nor missiles,\u201d Klymenko\u00a0said, describing the attack as one of the largest against Kyiv since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of the country in February 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty apartments were destroyed in a single residential block, and emergency services were searching through the rubble for possible survivors, Klymenko added.<\/p>\n<p>People were injured in Kyiv\u2019s Sviatoshynskyi and Solomianskyi districts, and fires broke out in two other parts of the city, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Total disrespect\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Klitschko also noted that a United States citizen died from shrapnel wounds.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian strikes, which lasted throughout the night, came as world leaders met in Canada for the Group of Seven (G7) summit.<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is due to attend the talks on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-arc-image-770 wp-image-3780311\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/2025-06-17T005211Z_1887751112_RC2Y3FAR6ZUH_RTRMADP_3_G7-SUMMIT-1750122162.jpg\" alt=\"U.S. President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer walk ahead of a family photo at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada, June 16, 2025. He sends a signal of total disrespect to the United States and other partners who have called for an end to the killing,\u201d he wrote on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Zelenskyy is seeking to persuade Trump to\u00a0extend support to Ukraine and put additional pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree a ceasefire.<\/p>\n<p>Sybiha suggested the Russian president wanted to make G7 leaders \u201cappear weak\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly strong steps and real pressure on Moscow can prove him wrong,\u201d the diplomat added.<\/p>\n<p>Zelenskyy called the overnight strikes \u201cone of the most horrific attacks\u201d carried out by Moscow and declared that Putin \u201cdoes this solely because he can afford to continue the war\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Little progress<\/p>\n<p>Pressed by Trump, Russia and Ukraine have held two rounds of direct talks over a truce but have made little progress with the exception of agreeing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/6\/15\/russia-returns-bodies-of-1200-more-ukrainians-as-part-of-pow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prisoner exchanges and the return of bodies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Russia has increased its bombardments since a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/6\/12\/ukraine-keeps-up-pressure-on-russian-airfields-and-war-production\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">daring operation<\/a> by Ukraine deep inside Russia on June 1 destroyed much of Moscow\u2019s heavy bomber fleet.<\/p>\n<p>In its latest attacks, Russia used 175 drones and more than 14 cruise missiles, Kyiv\u2019s authorities said on Telegram.<\/p>\n<p>Officials in Odesa said 13 people had been injured in further attacks on the Black Sea port city.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday that its air defence units had intercepted and destroyed 147 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory.<\/p>\n<p>While Ukraine is pressing for support from the West to help it maintain its air defences, Russia is suspected of sourcing arms from China, Iran and North Korea.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting Moscow\u2019s growing ties with Pyongyang, Putin\u2019s top security adviser, Sergei Shoigu, was reported by Russian state media to have arrived in the North Korean capital on Tuesday for talks with leader Kim Jong Un.<\/p>\n<p>North Korea is suspected of supplying Russia with ballistic missiles, antitank rockets and millions of rounds of ammunition while thousands of its soldiers are reported to have died during operations to oust occupying Ukrainian troops from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/4\/26\/russia-says-it-has-fully-retaken-kursk-but-ukraine-says-fighting-continues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Russia\u2019s border region of Kursk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is the second time that Shoigu has visited North Korea in less than two weeks, and it is seen as a sign that Moscow and Pyongyang are continuing to deepen their alliance.
