{"id":191468,"date":"2025-06-17T10:48:11","date_gmt":"2025-06-17T10:48:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/191468\/"},"modified":"2025-06-17T10:48:11","modified_gmt":"2025-06-17T10:48:11","slug":"american-media-deliver-their-liam-delap-verdict-after-watching-the-chelsea-striker-against-lafc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/191468\/","title":{"rendered":"American media deliver their Liam Delap verdict after watching the Chelsea striker against LAFC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Chelsea were solid if not spectacular in their successful effort to get three points on the board in their first game of the 2025 Club World Cup.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Goals from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thechelseachronicle.com\/tag\/pedro-neto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pedro Neto<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thechelseachronicle.com\/tag\/enzo-fernandez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Enzo Fernandez<\/a> saw the Blues cruise to a 2-0 win, with them not really needing to get out of second gear against MLS opponents LAFC.<\/p>\n<p>The Argentine had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thechelseachronicle.com\/tag\/liam-delap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liam Delap<\/a> to thank for his second-half goal, as he continued to show his newfound goalscoring interests by getting on the end of the striker\u2019s cross.<\/p>\n<p>Chelsea fans had to wait until after the break to see their new number nine in action following his \u00a330m move from Ipswich Town.<\/p>\n<p>They will not have been disappointed with what they saw, whilst also really pleased with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thechelseachronicle.com\/match-coverage\/liam-delap-gives-chelsea-fans-a-real-insight-into-his-mentality-with-honest-response-after-assist-vs-lafc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Delap\u2019s post-match comments<\/a> where he stated he is hungry for more than just assists in a Chelsea shirt.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-2220467307-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Liam Delap in action during Chelsea FC v Los Angeles Football Club: Group D - FIFA Club World Cup 2025\" \/>Photo by Alex Grimm\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Despite featuring for less than half an hour, Delap made an impression on the American media with his cameo, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/soccer\/club-world-cup-takeaways-chelsea-vs-lafc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Sports Illustrated<\/a> saying that the loudest reaction from the muted fanbase came <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe loudest cheer of the afternoon in Atlanta \u2014although there was a\u00a0shockingly low amount\u00a0of people in attendance\u2014 came when Liam Delap, Chelsea\u2019s newly acquired No. 9, made his debut for the club entering the pitch in the 64th minute.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn his 30 minute cameo, the former Ipswich Town center forward showed signs as to why Chelsea paid his\u00a0\u00a330 million ($40 million)\u00a0release clause early in the transfer window. Delap was energetic and intelligent with his movements, linking up well with former Manchester City academy teammate Cole Palmer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLess than five minutes into his cameo, he made a strong run and left behind his marker, with a tight angle and Lloris charging forward, he cut back the ball to a charging Fern\u00e1ndez who couldn\u2019t bury Chelsea\u2019s second thanks to a timely block. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, in the 81st minute, Delap freed himself with a similar run and once again set up Fern\u00e1ndez with a pin-point accurate cross.
