Eric Idle <\/a>has revealed he has been taken to hospital for the second time in three days this week. The comedy icon has taken to social media as he suspects he has gastroenteritis.<\/p>\n

This condition is the inflammation of the stomach and intestines, typically caused by a viral or bacterial infection. The Monty Python legend thanked the medical staff at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai for their “kindness and help”.<\/p>\n

He took to X <\/a>yesterday and said: “So I’d like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff in the Cedars GI ward for their kindness and help to me today. The second time in three days. I think I\u2019m suffering from gastroenteritis. I love you people.”<\/p>\n

Eric issued the health update as he prepares to go on the road later this year. The 82-year-old is going on tour with Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, live this September.<\/p>\n

The show is heading to the Liverpool Empire Theatre <\/a>on September 14. The evening is described as “rude songs, some singalongs, inappropriate remarks, reminiscences of fame, fortune and rare footage, plus a Virtual Band and surprise guests.”<\/p>\n

The entertainer has been a comedian since 1963 and his last solo performance in the UK came in 2012. Eric admitted in an interview last year that he “shouldn’t be alive”.<\/p>\n

He underwent surgery after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2019, and was thankful the disease was caught early as he now enjoys “every moment” of his life.<\/p>\n

Asked if having cancer had changed him, he told The Times: \u201cOh, I shouldn\u2019t be alive. I\u2019m a lucky b****** and I enjoy every moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

He initially thought his doctor was joking when he broke the news of his diagnosis. He said: \u201cI had been working on a project called \u2018Death: The Musical\u2019 and I asked my doctor which type of cancer I could use to finish off one of my characters.<\/p>\n

“He said, \u2018Pancreatic cancer, it can finish people off in three weeks.\u2019\u201d Ten years later, Eric had routine tests with the same doctor and queried an ominous-looking blood result.<\/p>\n

The comedian added: \u201cHe said, \u2018Pancreatic cancer\u2019 and I burst out laughing because I thought he must be joking.” Eric’s Liverpool show is part of a nationwide tour.<\/p>\n

The iconic comedian is also performing in Birmingham, Brighton, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bournemouth and the Royal Albert Hall.<\/p>\n
