Phillipson is making a lot this morning of Labour opening \u201cthe first 300 of the new school-based nurseries we promised\u201d in September. The DfE is opening up<\/a> \u00a315 million for schools to fund 300 new or expanded nurseries across England. Post-budget research<\/a> from The Early Years Alliance surveyed 1,000 \u201csettings\u201d on cost pressures, especially resulting from Reeves\u2019 NICs hike. Budget changes were found to result in extra costs \u201caveraging over \u00a318,600 per setting, per year.\u201d 95% said they were increasing fees and 40% of nurseries said they would were \u201clikely to close their entire setting permanently.\u201c Quick maths: 40% of 1,000\u2026<\/p>\n So 100 more nurseries are closing from Labour\u2019s policies than are opening this year.
