{"id":193273,"date":"2025-06-18T02:41:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T02:41:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/193273\/"},"modified":"2025-06-18T02:41:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T02:41:09","slug":"surge-of-islamophobia-in-europe-uk-discussed-in-british-parliament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/193273\/","title":{"rendered":"Surge of Islamophobia in Europe, UK discussed in British Parliament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>LONDON<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>A sharp rise in anti-Muslim hate crimes across Europe and the UK was revealed in a new report discussed in the British Parliament on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Labour MP Afzal Khan, vice chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on British Muslims, hosted a panel to present the European Islamophobia Report, warning of growing hostility and discrimination against Muslim communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIslamophobic assaults in the UK surged by 73% in 2024,\u201d Khan said. \u201cFor the past five years, around half of all religious hate crimes in the UK have targeted Muslims.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that the rise in anti-Muslim hate is not limited to Britain.<\/p>\n<p>In Germany, hate crimes against Muslims have increased by 140% since the start of the Gaza conflict in October 2023. In France, strict secularist policies have drawn criticism, particularly those affecting Muslim women\u2019s clothing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can never understand why a government should decide how a woman dresses,\u201d Khan said.<\/p>\n<p>-\u2018Historic moment\u2019 for UK Muslims<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking at the event, Lord Khan of Burnley, Minister for Faith and Communities, said the government remains committed to tackling Islamophobia, though defining it remains a challenge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s difficult to define Islamophobia.
