{"id":193320,"date":"2025-06-18T03:05:19","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T03:05:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/193320\/"},"modified":"2025-06-18T03:05:19","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T03:05:19","slug":"diana-ross-opens-up-in-rare-interview-my-five-children-really-take-care-of-their-mum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/193320\/","title":{"rendered":"Diana Ross opens up in rare interview &#8211; &#8216;My five children really take care of their mum&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Music legend Diana Ross opens up ahead of her hotly-anticipated UK tour about family, fashion, and why performing live is her &#8216;life force&#8217;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1750215916_310_0_Glastonbury-Festival-2022-Day-Five.jpg\" alt=\"Diana Ross\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Diana Ross wows at Glastonbury in her much-heralded performance(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">When it comes to dramatic entrances, there is no doubt <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/diana-ross\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Diana Ross<\/a> reigns Supreme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Sweeping down the navy-blue carpet in an extraordinary, floor-grazing white gown, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/3am\/celebrity-news\/met-gala-2025-diana-ross-35175241\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">the legendary star lit up the Met Gala last month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">With a feather-boa trimmed cape and hat &#8211; not to mention several assistants carrying the train up the stairs &#8211; she marked her first appearance at the fashion event for 20 years with a bang.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">And the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/tv\/tv-news\/grammy-fans-spot-diana-ross-34601197\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Grammy-winning legend<\/a> aims to make a similar splash when she takes to the stage of her UK tour next week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In a rare, exclusive interview, Diana says how fashion &#8211; and numerous dazzling costume changes &#8211; will be at the heart of the new dates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Not least, she says, because us Brits have such a keen sense of style.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to coming to the UK&#8230;I love the country and the British people have elegance,\u201d she explains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Diana is determined to build on the last series of shows here, which included the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/3am\/celebrity-news\/queen-soul-diana-ross-close-27003281\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Queen\u2019s Platinum Jubilee concert<\/a> and her <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/tv\/tv-news\/diana-ross-pulls-epic-crowd-27331575\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">unforgettable turn on Glastonbury\u2019s Pyramid Stage<\/a>, in 2022, as well as the Royal Albert Hall the following year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cI\u2019m bringing my live band and I\u2019ve added an orchestra and a choir that will really make these shows special&#8230;it\u2019s almost two hours of memories, dancing, and dazzling costume changes,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">All of her gowns for these shows have been custom-made, with Diana personally designing each one and working with a seamstress to bring them to life.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1_The-2025-Met-Gala-Celebrating-Superfine-Tailoring-Black-Style-Arrivals.jpg\" alt=\"Diana Ross\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Diana Ross stuns at the Met Gala(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cFashion and music are both forms of self-expression\u2014it\u2019s really a part of who I am and how I connect. On this tour, I want every gown and every song to reflect a spirit of being fun and elegant,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cMusic and fashion go hand and hand &#8211; dressing up feels wonderful, and I want to inspire everyone coming to the shows &#8211; to do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">As well as fashion, family means everything to Diana too, who has five kids, and eight grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cMy family is really my greatest joy and blessing. [Eldest daughter] Rhonda travels with me on tour and will be at the shows. My five children really take care of their mum,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Diana <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/3am\/celebrity-news\/inside-diana-ross-life-age-27120895\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">had Rhonda, 53, with Motown legend Berry Gordy in 1971<\/a>. The same year, she married her first husband, music executive Robert Ellis Silberstein, and they had two more daughters: Tracee, 52, and Chudney, 49.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Diana split from Silberstein in 1977 and went on to marry Norwegian mountaineer Arne Naess Jr. in 1986. The former couple had sons Ross, 37, and Evan, 36.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Diana says she was determined to pay homage to all her kids by sewing all their names into her <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/met-gala\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Met Gala<\/a> gown.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/2_The-2025-Met-Gala-Celebrating-Superfine-Tailoring-Black-Style-Arrivals.jpg\" alt=\"The names of Diana's children were sewn into her dress\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The names of Diana&#8217;s children were sewn into her dress(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cFashion, like music, tells a story,\u201d she explains \u201c <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/3am\/celebrity-news\/inside-met-galas-full-glitz-35175808\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">The Met Gala<\/a> was a special moment for me. My son Evan and a young designer Ugo Mozie and I collaborated on the gown and cloak that I wore. We wanted something meaningful. The 18-foot train stretches across generations with the names of my adult children and grandchildren beautifully embroidered on it. It\u2019s beaded and has crystals\u2014 the details celebrate my family, and our love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Born in Detroit\u2019s Brewster-Douglass Housing Project &#8211; America\u2019s first federally funded housing for African Americans &#8211; Diana was one of six children and grew up singing at family parties and in a Baptist church gospel choir.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Her life changed forever when she met Florence Ballard and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/mary-wilson\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Mary Wilson<\/a> and in early 1959, the three girls along with Betty McGlown, started The Primettes\u2019, an all-girl singing group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cMy love for singing became my life and my passion&#8230;those moments really gave me hope. It was the beginning of this beautiful, incredibly blessed journey,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The trio auditioned for the fledgling Motown label and in January 1961, they were eventually signed as The Supremes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">By 1965 they had racked up five consecutive number one hits with songs such as Baby Love and Stop! In the Name of Love.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1_TheCollectiveYou-DigitalMasters-Ross-02.jpg\" alt=\"Diana Ross with her children and grandchildren \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Diana Ross with her children and grandchildren (Image: Eddie Wolfl)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In 1967, the band\u2019s name was changed to Diana Ross and the Supremes, before Diana went solo three years later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">With such a huge body of work, Diana is spoilt for choice when it comes to curating a special set-list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe audiences have requested songs that were big: I\u2019m Still Waiting, Love Hangover and Chain Reaction. UK, here I come,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In preparation for the shows, Diana has a few strategies to stay performance-ready including steaming her throat, drinking hot tea with honey and breathing exercises.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">And despite a career spanning six decades, Diana says she still gets as much of a thrill from performing live to audiences as ever.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In fact, she describes it as her \u201clife force.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThere is nothing more magical than performing. When I go out on stage, I feel alive. That\u2019s pure magic to me,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cPerforming on stage brings me a lot of joy. It\u2019s fun for me as well as the audience. I can feel the exchange of energy with the audience as I perform. I love seeing the beautiful, happy faces from the stage. The audiences are such an important part of all my shows.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It is with them in mind that she has enlisted three of the most prestigious UK orchestras for her shows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">She is performing five times with the Manchester based Hall\u00e9 Orchestra, before being joined by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in Glasgow and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra for London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cI want everyone to feel like they\u2019re part of something truly special. They are just as much a part of the shows as I am \u2014 each show is a night I hope they\u2019ll never forget. Music. Memories. And Dazzle,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Diana Ross visits Birmingham, Nottingham, Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and London for her 2025 UK Tour.
