{"id":193358,"date":"2025-06-18T03:27:13","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T03:27:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/193358\/"},"modified":"2025-06-18T03:27:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T03:27:13","slug":"asia-pacific-markets-today-japan-trade-data","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/193358\/","title":{"rendered":"Asia-Pacific markets today: Japan trade data"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>View of the Skytree from Ueno and Asakusa in Tokyo<\/p>\n<p>Jackal Pan | Moment | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed Wednesday, as escalating tensions between Israel and Iran weigh on investor sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>Adding fuel to fire, U.S. President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/06\/17\/trump-iran-israel-khamenei.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mulling a military strike on Iran<\/a>, while demanding the country&#8217;s leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei &#8220;surrender,&#8221; former and current U.S. officials told NBC News.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, in a post on Truth Social, demanded &#8220;UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!&#8221; by Iran.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Comments from President Trump have triggered speculation that the U.S. will get more involved in the conflict between Iran and Israel that escalated significantly five days ago,&#8221; ANZ analysts wrote in a note.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s benchmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nikkei 225<\/a> added 0.47%, and the Topix rose 0.4%. South Korea&#8217;s Kospi climbed 0.7% and the small-cap Kosdaq was 0.66% higher.<\/p>\n<p>Japan exports in May declined 1.7% year on year, softer than the 3.8% decline expected by Reuters. The data comes a day after the Bank of Japan highlighted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boj.or.jp\/en\/mopo\/mpmdeci\/mpr_2025\/k250617a.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its monetary policy statement<\/a> that the country&#8217;s growth was likely to &#8220;moderate&#8221; on the back of factors like trade, which would lead to a slowdown in overseas economies and a decline in domestic corporate profits.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> was flat.<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hang Seng index<\/a> lost 0.87%, and mainland China&#8217;s CSI 300 was up 0.18%.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. stock futures inched lower as traders brace for the Federal Reserve&#8217;s rate decision due Wednesday afternoon stateside.<\/p>\n<p>Overnight on Wall Street, all three major averages ended the trading day lower. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a>\u00a0lost 299.29 points, or 0.70%, to close at 42,215.80.
