Sheffield United\u2019s decision to sack Chris Wilder has surprised the fans of two clubs who beat them to the Premier League last season.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wilder<\/a>\u2018s Blades came up short in the cruellest possible fashion in the Championship play-off final on 24 May, as Tommy Watson scored an injury-time winner for Sunderland<\/a> to spark pandemonium at Wembley.<\/p>\n

Sheffield United<\/a>\u2018s last-gasp defeat consigns them to another season in the second tier after they were first beaten to automatic promotion by Leeds United<\/a> and Burnley, both of whom accumulated 100 points. <\/p>\n

The Blades won a record 92 of their own to finish third in spite of a two-point deduction at the start of the campaign, but a late-season collapse of four defeats in seven will see Wilder pay the ultimate price<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After a tail-off in form saw the Blades drop from the Championship summit to a distant third behind Leeds and Burnley before their loss to Sunderland, Sheffield United were \u201creviewing\u201d Wilder\u2019s position<\/a>.<\/p>\n

An official announcement is yet to be made at Bramall Lane, but Football Insider<\/strong> understands that Sheffield United\u2019s new owners COH Sports have decided to dismiss Wilder.<\/p>\n

This comes after Football Insider<\/strong> exclusively revealed on 30th May that Wilder was facing the sack at Bramall Lane<\/a> following the club\u2019s promotion failure.<\/p>\n

Wilder has had no reported bust-ups with the Blades\u2019 ownership group despite some disagreements over transfer in January, and the 57-year-old has been \u201cblind-sided\u201d by Sheffield United\u2019s decision<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Football Insider<\/strong> have already revealed that the recently-sacked former Hull manager Ruben Selles is in advanced talks to succeed Wilder at Sheffield United<\/a>, as an announcement beckons from the hierarchy.<\/p>\n

The Blades\u2019 promotion rivals Sunderland and Leeds are ready to pounce for the likes of Gustavo Hamer<\/a>, but both sets of fans have been left flabbergasted at the \u201ccrackers\u201d choice to relieve Wilder of his duties. <\/p>\n

Sunderland<\/a> supporters declared that the \u201cgame has gone mad\u201d, while Leeds fans added that Sheffield United\u2019s decision was \u201cmadness\u201d, and that Wilder would have \u201ccomfortably\u201d won promotion next season with the Blades.<\/p>\n

I think he remains the guy most likely to get them back up this season. Leeds lost playoff final and didn\u2019t panic and got promoted the following season comfortably. Wouldn\u2019t be surprised if with Wilder the same thing happened for the Blades this season<\/p>\n

Saw something on here the other day which was an end of season report for all the Champo clubs. It had Sheff Utd in the \u2018under-achieved\u2019 category. In any other season 92 points gets promoted. Crackers.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m a leeds fan and we kept Farke last year when we failed in the play offs final. This year 100 points and the championship trophy. I\u2019m surprised Wilder hasn\u2019t walked having to work with a board like that<\/p>\n
