{"id":193547,"date":"2025-06-18T05:08:13","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T05:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/193547\/"},"modified":"2025-06-18T05:08:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T05:08:13","slug":"new-details-of-south-bristol-liveable-neighbourhood-published-as-soon-as-possible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/193547\/","title":{"rendered":"New details of South Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood published \u2018as soon as possible\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The council has shared a key report with Arup, but not yet with the public who will be affected by the changes<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1_20240403-175307.jpg\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>The project aims to make walking and cycling safer in places like Southville(Image: Alex Seabrook)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">New details of the planned South Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood are expected to be published \u201cas soon as possible\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Last year <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bristol-city-council\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol City Council<\/a> consulted the public about traffic problems in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bedminster\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bedminster<\/a>, Southville, Windmill Hill and Totterdown, before designing all sorts of changes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Since that consultation, transport chiefs at the council have written a public engagement report, looking at the results of what people think. This report has been shared with Arup, a company working with the council on the project, but has not yet been made available to the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Leading councillors on the strategy and resources policy committee were urged to publish this report on Monday, June 16. A similar project in Barton Hill and St George, the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/east-bristol-liveable-neighbourhood-brought-10238200\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood<\/a>, proved very controversial with complaints about a public consultation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_South-Bristol-Liveable-Neighbourhood-map.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>(Image: Bristol City Council )<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Suzanne Audrey, a local activist, said: \u201cPublic consultation is an important part of democratic engagement. I\u2019m sure we all know there have been problems with Bristol City Council consultations in recent years \u2014 Western Harbour and East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood being examples.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cCurrently, the public engagement report for South Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood, which I know exists, is not available to the public nor in particular the people of South Bristol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;But Arup has seen it and they are developing interventions. Please publish the report, learn from previous mistakes and keep the public informed \u2014 and ensure their views are treated with respect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/south-bristol-liveable-neighbourhood-what-10091362\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">aim of the liveable neighbourhood<\/a> will be making streets safer and quieter, encouraging more people to walk or cycle instead of driving. This includes improving air quality and access to local shopping areas, such as East Street and North Street.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_TCBR080425SBLNBRIjpeg.jpg\" alt=\"New promotion of the South Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood, on West Street in Bedminster in early April 2025\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>New promotion of the South Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood, on West Street in Bedminster in early April 2025(Image: Bristol Post)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Green Councillor Tony Dyer, leader of the council, said: \u201cI\u2019ve spoken to the chair of the transport policy committee [Green Cllr Ed Plowden], who is responsible for the delivery of the liveable neighbourhood in South Bristol. He\u2019s reassured me that the report will be made public as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Next steps will be consulting the public again, this time on detailed designs of how the liveable neighbourhood could be rolled out, at some point this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This could include installing planters and bollards, to stop drivers using residential roads as rat runs, diverting them instead onto main roads. Driving routes could change, but all of the area will still be accessible by car.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Bus gates are another option, which block general traffic but allow buses and taxis. More bike hangars could be installed, to help cyclists safely store their bicycles.
