{"id":193636,"date":"2025-06-18T05:56:15","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T05:56:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/193636\/"},"modified":"2025-06-18T05:56:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T05:56:15","slug":"israel-systematically-targets-health-care-facilities-in-gaza-doctors-tell-uk-parliament-middle-east-monitor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/193636\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel \u2018systematically\u2019 targets health care facilities in Gaza, doctors tell UK parliament \u2013 Middle East Monitor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The British Parliament\u2019s Foreign Affairs Committee held a public evidence session to discuss the situation in Gaza with humanitarian aid workers and health professionals who have visited the Strip in recent months, Anadolu reports.<\/p>\n<p>Tanya Haj-Hassan, a pediatric intensive care doctor with the UK-based charity Medical Aid for Palestinians, testified before the committee that Israel has \u201csystematically targeted and destroyed\u201d Gaza\u2019s health-care system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt least 1,500 health care workers have been killed to date in Gaza, including several of my former students. I had taught them when they were medical students. And I can tell your viewers right now, these are some of the most dedicated health care workers that I have ever encountered,\u201d Haj-Hassan said.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of the session, Committee Chair Emily Thornberry asked the witnesses to provide as much information as possible for the public, \u201cbecause they won\u2019t see it on the front page of the newspapers in the way that they might have if there hadn\u2019t been the war with Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.middleeastmonitor.com\/20250616-un-says-1-in-3-expectant-mothers-in-gaza-faces-high-risk-pregnancy-amid-medical-shortages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UN says 1 in 3 expectant mothers in Gaza faces high-risk pregnancy amid medical shortages<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Haj-Hassan agreed, detailing that the Iran-Israel crisis is \u201cthe most recent development of turning off the lights on what\u2019s happening in Gaza.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She reminded them that international journalists and independent investigators have not been allowed into the strip in the last 20 months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo humanitarian workers are some of the only independent witnesses on the ground, and we can consistently emerge, sharing harrowing details that are morally and legally sufficient to warrant a response, and we haven\u2019t seen that response,\u201d Haj-Hassan said.<\/p>\n<p>Anna Halford, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) emergency coordinator in Gaza, agreed with Haj-Hassan\u2019s description of \u201csystematic destruction\u201d of Gaza\u2019s health system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no other word for it. We witnessed the dismantling of a system.
