{"id":194059,"date":"2025-06-18T09:39:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T09:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/194059\/"},"modified":"2025-06-18T09:39:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T09:39:12","slug":"gentle-hike-near-bristol-passes-heather-moorland-and-mountain-views","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/194059\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Gentle&#8217; hike near Bristol passes heather moorland and mountain views"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s also next to a lively market town known for its fantastic food<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/0_Pontypool_walk-31.jpg\" alt=\"Blorenge is also on stage 3 of the Cambrian Way long-distance trail.\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Blorenge is also on stage 3 of the Cambrian Way long-distance trail(Image: Portia Jones\/ WalesOnline)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A keen walker has recommended a &#8220;relatively easy&#8221; route that offers stunning views of rolling hills and heather-covered moorlands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Blorenge hill walk has been described as &#8220;an ideal day walk&#8221; in South Wales, and the car park used as the starting point is only an hour away from Bristol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/whats-on\/travel\/you-wont-believe-whats-buried-31874453\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">WalesOnline<\/a> journalist Portia Jones said the walk is one of her favourite short hikes, located near the &#8220;lively market town&#8221; of Abergavenny where foodies can also find a Michelin-starred restaurant, acclaimed bakery and award-winning hotel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Portia <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/whats-on\/travel\/you-wont-believe-whats-buried-31874453\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> : &#8220;Blorenge is a prominent hill in the southeastern corner of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, overlooking the valley of the River Usk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;The Blorenge walk is a gentle hike from the car park across the mountaintop, taking around two hours and suitable for older children to walk. The car park&#8217;s proximity to the summit makes this a relatively easy walk compared to most in Bannau Brycheiniog.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Stroll around swathes of heather moorland, looking out over the rolling Black Mountains and signs of the area&#8217;s industrial heritage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;If you&#8217;re kicking off your walk from the car park, keep an eye out for a rather quirky sight nearby \u2013 a memorial to a horse. How very Welsh.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">There are several walks in the area, but walking app AllTrails recommends the &#8216;Blorenge Short Circular&#8217; as an &#8216;easy&#8217; option that covers 5km and takes about 90 minutes on average to complete.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It starts at the Fox Hunter Car Park, postcode NP4 9SR. One recent visitor wrote in a Google review of the location: &#8220;Lovely walk to the trig point at just over 550 metres, great views all around and then back to Keepers pond for a picnic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Another agreed: &#8220;The views from hear are spectacular and all trails are well sign posted. You can see Abergavenny, Golivon, Keepers Pond, Blorange Trig Point Gyfdd Mountain. Fantastic! Will definitely be back.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">More experienced ramblers can try the 7-mile &#8216;Blorenge Circular&#8217; walk, which starts from a car park by Keeper&#8217;s Pond, a small lake, and also encompasses another pond known as the Punchbowl.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The path then ascends, winding around towards the summit of the Blorenge.
