Spanish authorities have issued a warning as temperatures exceed 40C. Parts of Spain, included Andalusia, hit 40C last weekend and the temperatures have not dropped &#8211; with no sign of them easing in the days ahead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued multiple alerts for large parts of the country, in both the north and south of Spain. And Spain\u2019s Ministry of Health said: \u201cAvoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks, as they can worsen dehydration during heatwaves.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Tourists, and locals, are being advised to d rink water regularly, even if you don\u2019t feel thirsty; w ear lightweight, breathable clothing; s tay in cool, shaded areas and a void strenuous activity during peak heat hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The UK&#8217;s <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/foreign-travel-advice\/spain\/safety-and-security\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Foreign Office<\/a> warns: &#8220;Extreme weather can affect many areas of Spain, particularly over the summer months. Follow the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aemet.es\/en\/portada\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Spanish Meteorological Office (AEMET)<\/a> and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.meteoalarm.org\/en\/?s=italy\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">European Meteorological Services<\/a> for severe weather warnings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Alcohol is a diuretic , meaning it increases urine production and can lead to dehydration . I n hot weather, you&#8217;re already losing fluids through sweating, so alcohol increases the risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Alcohol can dilate blood vessels, making you feel warmer even though your body might be overheating. T his can mask early signs of heat-related illness. Alcohol impairs your body\u2019s ability to regulate its core temperature.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In extreme heat, this increases the likelihood of heat stroke, which can be life-threatening. In the heat, alcohol may make you more likely to underestimate how hot it is or forget to hydrate, seek shade, or apply sunscreen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Symptoms of overheating\u2014which can range from mild heat exhaustion to severe heat stroke\u2014develop when your body can&#8217;t cool itself effectively.<\/p>\n<p>Early symptoms (Heat Exhaustion):<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">These are signs your body is struggling with the heat but hasn&#8217;t reached a critical state yet.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Heavy sweating<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Thirst and dehydration<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Fatigue or weakness<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Dizziness or lightheadedness<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Headache<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Nausea or vomiting<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Muscle cramps<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Cool, pale, clammy skin<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Fast, weak pulse<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Irritability or confusion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Severe symptoms (Heat Stroke):<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This is a medical emergency.
