This comes on the heels of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/labour-party\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Labour Party<\/a> Chancellor <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/money\/spring-statement-2025-winners-losers-34933835\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Rachel Reeves&#8217; Spring statement<\/a>, which reinstated car tax for EV drivers at \u00a3195 annually for most.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The average cost to fully charge an electric vehicle at home in the UK is predicted to rise from \u00a314.91 to \u00a316.21 (\u00a31.30 increase) starting April 1. This represents a \u00a32.84 million increase from the estimated March 2025 expenditure of \u00a332.2 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">While, from April 1, 2025, EV drivers will no longer be exempt from car tax. For vehicles registered on or after this date, drivers will pay a first-year rate of \u00a310, followed by the standard annual rate of \u00a3195 from the second year onwards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">EVs registered between April 1, 2017, and March 31, 2025, will move straight to the standard rate of \u00a3195 a year (\u00a316.25 per month), reports <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/motoring\/motoring-news\/drivers-who-car-driveway-risk-31325021\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham Live<\/a>.
