It’s Royal Ascot time of year again, and when the Duchess of Edinburgh<\/a> arrived at the racecourse on Tuesday (17 June), she broke with her usual tradition by opting for an elegant, sheer dress. <\/p>\n

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, usually chooses a mid to long sleeve midi dress for more formal outings, as she did for the Order of the Garter<\/a> just a few days ago. For Ascot this year, however, Sophie wore a dual layer dress by Suzannah London<\/a>, featuring a strapless white midi-length layer beneath a long-sleeve sheer overlay, studded with delicate applique daisies. <\/p>\n

Sophie is known for re-wearing staple wardrobe pieces, and previously wore this same dress last year on her 25th wedding anniversary which fell during Royal Ascot.<\/p>\n

In a social media post, the Royal Family explained that attending Royal Ascot has been a tradition since the 1700s. Each year, ‘At 2pm, The Royal Family parade along the track in front of racegoers in carriages,’ the post reads. It adds that the tradition of the ‘Royal Procession began in 1825 when King George IV led four other coaches with members of the Royal party up the Straight Mile.’<\/p>\n

Also attending this year’s event were The King and Queen, Princess Anne and her daughter Zara Tindall, and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. It’s been a busy month for the royals, with Saturday’s Trooping of the Colour<\/a> to mark The King’s official birthday before the Order of the Garter on Monday. <\/p>\n
